Anyway I survived...
Doesn't sound like much.
It's enough.

So the lawbreakers part?.... I just spent the evening taking my 85 yr/old granny shopping,( 'cause she has macular degeneration and no longer feels comfy driving in the big city anymore) anyway I was driving home a different way when when I hit a speed zone that went from 40 to 60 in a very short space and was only a few feet after the 60 when I got a ticket going 54! and was honestly so focused on trying to avoid this area where the road had collapsed and they put a speed bump IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY that I had no idea how fast I was driving ..... Does anybody know how to beat an unfair traffic ticket? or know any lawyers that owe you a favor? Please help!!!

Double check the speed limits; I'm fairly sure there are federal guidelines that preclude them from dropping the limit more than 15mph in a short space. You have to step the speed limits down - 70mph, 55mph, 45mph, 35mph, 30mph, etc. It's supposed to help lessen the likelihood of a speed trap. If it went from 60mph to 40mph in one drop, that should be illegal, and get your ticket - and every other one written in that area - thrown out. Look into it.
On the other thing, though, if the speed limit drops, you aren't allowed to start coasting down to the new speed when you hit the sign stating that speed limit - that's the speed you're allowed to be going WHEN YOU REACH THAT SIGN. Oddly, it doesn't work the same way when the speed limit goes up. For example, if you're going from a 70 zone to a 55 zone, when you hit that 55mph sign, you can't be still doing 65mph and slowing down. You have to be going 55mph, by law. However, when you go from a 55 zone into a 70 zone, you're not allowed to be going 70 when you reach THAT sign; that's the point at which you can START accelerating.
Sucks, huh?
Meanwhile, you can try to fight the ticket and hope the cop doesn't show; that's a coin-flip's chance, but it happens. I've gotten tickets tossed before when the cop didn't show up to court, but if he DOES come in, you're probably screwed. Or you can do the defensive driving thing and keep it off your record, OR you can ask for deferred adjudication and try to keep it off your record that way (might work, might not, but you have to try; worst they can say is "No"). Or you can hire a lawyer and pay him to shred the cop's credibility.
You have options. None of them are really cheap or easy, but all are out there. Good luck with it.

Wow, great info Kwicko! Watcha think about making a sign that says "beware of giant bump AND giant speed trap" and going for a walk? at least I would undercut their bottom line, if only for a day? And get some exercize (mainly of my demons). I completely understand why of late there are sooooo many bomb threats and "envelopes of a mysterious white powdery substance" mailed into the local ath-or-i-tie-s....

Psst, hey PJ. All the Firefly episodes are technically still up on hulu, it just cycles through five at a time, with the cycle progressing to the next episode each Monday.
Whatcha really gotta be concerned about is if or when hulu goes pay for play.

How dare you psssst in the middle of my angst?!
(Iremist pretends)
I am outaged and offended.... (most of the time *sigh*)... Carry on....
And hoping Hulu doesn't go pay for play...
Watcha think about paying the fine in change?

I'm thinking if it hadn't happened in a different state, I might tip off someone I know about that little "anti-speed-trap" rule.
Well, if you can't fight it... Where do you have to direct payment to? If it's the city, it's not going to be the police department who has to sort it all out, it's going to be some poor clerk jerk.
I say pay the usual way by check... But leave a wheelbarrow full of pennies at the precinct responsible for the ticket. It'd be super annoying and I don't think they can charge you for anything.

OK seriously do you get to go the speed of the sign you can see ahead of you or do you have to wait til you pass it??? And who made that rule anyway?
Also, baby experts are full of it.. they are obviously raising babies of reasonable size and demeanor not the rampaging hulk I am currently raising... so fie on them!! ( yes I said fie)

1. Facist pencil pushers who spend most of their time figuring out ways to "get YOU, the criminal" and they just want you to bend over and take it like a good little sheep...
2. Beware of anyone calling themselves an "expert" on anything -especially babies... Every baby is a totally unique creature and the only "expert" is YOU! the primary caregiver... If you are having a problem creativity is the key. Find out the child's motivating factor and find a fun way to USE IT BABY!... My seven yr old is totally money motivated, last year she didn't even want to read at all until we started bribing her, and I got test result today that said she reads like a third grader! YaY! Sometime, the Ends does justify the Means.
