Hmm, I don't know about the scientists in particular, or how they might be using global warming here, but to me it does sound like the CFR is a concern. Are there any checks and balances on them?

The CFR is one of many think tanks that seek to influence policy. (BTW they were listed in your link, which claimed that the 'CFR scientists' were in league with BIG oil etc. Since you linked it, that was why I asked - who is the CFR ? I thought maybe there was another CFR around somewhere. B/c, AFAIK, the CFR has no scientists. Given that, the claim that 'CFR scientists' were 'doing' anything at all seems --- remote.)
ETA: there really are conspiracies. Rich and powerful people do intend to stay rich and powerful, and maybe even get more rich and powerful. And they will do that no matter how many people have to die of want or war, no matter how many lies they have to spew, no matter how much destruction is caused, no matter the true insanity of it all. That doesn't relieve us of the burden of sorting out fact from fiction (a task PN is sadly equipped to perform). Going crazy with suspicion and pointing the finger everywhere is that same as pointing it nowhere. Either way, nothing changes.

I guess I didn't notice the who so much in the link PN gave so much as the information about the Big Oil companies. Definitely I've seen the Oil Companies become more open to the possibility of green technology, which I don't necessarily think is a bad thing, but I have to wonder which comes first, the changing marketplace, or the marketplace manipulation? I've always thought Big Oil was being pretty dumb, dragging their feet on looking for renewables when oil and gas are predicted by their own people to run out in 20 to 50 years. But definitely jumping on a global warming bandwagon, is smart, whether or not global warming is real. Which I actually think it is, though I'm very skeptical of any "catastrophe" beyond sea level rise, storm intensity, and more extreme droughts.
Thanks for the info on CFR, both you and PN. As I said, I suppose we don't really know where exactly they fit in to the rich and powerful conspiracies you mention (which I also believe to be real), but if they were strongly represented in the Bush Administration (and this administration) then I think PN has correctly labeled them a problem group.
Hope I don't regret saying that.

Byte - It's not so much that big oil is AGAINST green technology, per se; it's that they're against it - vehemently - right up until they've gotten their investments lined up to make the most of green technology. THEN they're all for it.
I noticed this with the soda makers, back when there was a push to get soda machines out of the schools, and to replace them with healthier alternatives. It was fought, hard, and lobbied against, and the soda machines stayed, at least up until Coca-Cola and PepsiCo had bought up a slew of bottled water companies and juice companies. Then, when it came up again, they said, "Oh hells yah - those machines got to GO. Here, put some of our bottled water and juice machines in there." So now, instead of a $0.50 soda at school, you get a nice $1.50 water. Everybody's happy. Especially the water bottlers, eh?
I knew for a fact that Big Oil would get behind green tech; they just had to make sure they could buy the right companies and make the right investments so that if green tech took off, they won, and if oil stayed cheap, they won as well.

Sorry, I was unaware that there were people that didn't know. The CFR has been the subject of many threads here, and elsewhere. Their website cfr.org used to openly advocate disollution of the United States in favor of a one world govt., one world currency, selective population control, global population reduction and a whole host of nasties. Now they've toned down their image, seeing as one of their own is President, they have to be respectable, or appear that way. But it's not a big surprise that people like John Holdren end up in the administration. Of course, the last administration was filled with CFR members, or operatives, and as Gino said, they've been growing inside the govt for a while. Katie Couric is a CFR operative.
But on the topic of the USA ceasing to exist, anyone else having a problem reaching google or yahoo? is internet search being retooled to go through some great firewall filter, and will tomorrow's news claim that this was all "some massive virus attack (sorry, I'm no longer buying that story.)

And their maps still show America as being "United States of America". I could maybe understand them being down or slow if they had to rename everything in their databases, though. Of course, Word makes it easier these days with a "search and replace" action...
Ah well - there's always tomorrow. I'm going to be supremely disappointed in Piraticipant's conjurin' abilities if we don't cease to exist soon, though.
