Summer's got this. In every possible way, she's got this.
Eliza is not a strong enough actor to pull off a lead in a series. She just doesn't convince me that she's special in Dollhouse.
Summer as River, hands down no contest. Of course, Firefly was written so much better.

Summer, hands down. In Dollhouse's last two episodes, "The Public Eye" and "The Left Hand," Summer, as guest-star Bennett Halverson, is downright brilliant. We already know she can do 'crazy,' but she was truly phenomenal again this time! I think this was the first time, ever, that I've seen a crazy person portrayed so well, that I was actually scared of her my own self. :) I guess because, so unlike others, Summer doesn't doesn't fall into the all too easy, all-out-psychopath trap. Sorry to say, but even Alan's performance as Alpha paled in comparison to that of Summer. Alpha, after all, really eagerly does the all-out-psychopath bit, too. And, like the drooling skinhead in Highlander, overtly psychotic or entirely evil rarely impresses me. Bennett, on the other hand, was astounding! Charmed as she was by Topher, you could nonetheless sense her high intellect hovering around the room as a vigilant sword, poised to strike at the first sign of betrayal. What a masterful performance that was! Yes, she too was geeky, but not in the totally over the top, all-cliches-strung-together kinda way Topher is. Topher's demeanour is more that of a caricature: the way jocks in high-school think 'nerds' behave, kinda.
I'm sorry, I was just gonna praise Summer, without putting the others down. But, by Grabthar's hammer, she puts 'em all to shame, really. Dushku most of all, again with her rowdy, street-smart 'this is all I got' routine. Yes, when the show first aired, I was attracted to her. But it's gotten to the point now where I really consider her more of a turn-off, rather; and I'm usually happiest when she just doesn't show up at all.
This was a "River-esque" Summer; this was "Allison from Palmdale." This was Summer at her strongest. Next time they make a show about robots, they should have Dushku stand still instead, and let Summer do the talking!

Eliza Dushku does a great bad ass chick. Summer glau does a great kickas chick. they're both great...but I prefer Eliza's hint of naughty and depth of performance. Also I disagree about her not being able to pull off a lead in a series. She is more than strong enough. Have you not watched Tru Caling? Also I thought she stole alot of the scenes in Buffy which considering the calibre of the other actors is no mean feet. She doesn't carry the lead in Doll's house because it is an ensemble piece played by a number of talented actors. Kudos to the creator/director for ensuring that...what's his name again?
