Serenity was, for me, Joss' crowning achievement to this point. Sure, thinkin' that the crew was teversing the 'Verse all whole & well would've been nice, but Serenity gave the series so much more depth for me, and as much as I hated some of the things that transpired, it felt true to the intent of the tale.
Opinions?

Absolutely less. I loved the movie, and if we never get to see any more from our BDH, it provided a nice bit of semi-closure.

IF Serenity was never made then we wouldn't know if we would be happy or not because we would have never seen it to know if we would be happy or not.Let say if firefly was never made would you be happy or not? Well the only answer would be no because it would have never been on so you would not know.

Glad it got made. Sad at a couple of things that happened in it. But more glad than sad.

If Serenity had never been made then all we would have to watch is Firefly. I could have been satisfied with that, but the BDM was great so I am happy it was made. But not as happy as I will be when we get to see Serenity 2.

Hmmmm. No movie - Wash is still alive. Movie - Wash is definitely dead. Tough call. If this is truly the end, I 'm glad it was made, but if the show restarts without Wash? Less happy.

If the move had never been made I may well have never discovered the show or this board.
= Far less happy.

I never get tired of watching the tv episodes. In fact, even after dozens of viewings I like them more and more with every new viewing. Sadly, I cannot say the same for the BDM. Without listing all the reasons why, suffice to say I like it less and less each time I watch it.

Interesting question - rather than just repeat what the others have already said - (I'm more with Mangolo & company on this, glad it was made, but...) - I'd like to ask a follow up question:
IF the movie had not been made and the story had to continue only as a graphic novel... do you think it would have been the same story as was told in the movie? How much different would it have been, and would you have liked that better than the movie?

Less happy. For one the first time I saw Serenity goes down as one of my top 10 nights ever. Prescreening with Nathan and Ron ftw! Second, when Firefly was canceled I believed that it just didn't have the exposure it needed to find an audience. The movie was a chance to get that exposure. It failed to reach the mass market. At least now we know that. Otherwise I'd always feel like the world was cheated. Now I just know the world isn't ready for the Whedonverse.

No "Serenity"?!? Bite your tongue man!
Definitely would be less happy. Though it was sad to lose Wash and Book, it did give us more depth the characters and story. We got some of our questions answered, and it set it up nicely for more stories in the future.

I may be the only person that feels this way but if Serenity was never made, I'd be happy.
Happy? What the hell?
I liked it just fine, but any fan of the show could tell there was WAAAAAYYYYY more story in there than can be told in two hours. It was Whedon's way of giving the Firefly series(worlds better than Serenity) closure. And it did exactly that, which is what makes me sad.
I still think Joss could re-visit the Firefly universe, and give us another show with hours, and hours of entertainment through the roof.
But because of the feature film Serenity....we will never see this happen.
Serenity was a good film, but loving Firefly as much as I do I can't call it a great film.

I'd be substantially less happy because Serenity is how NV found out abotu Firefly and if he hadn't found out we wouldn't have met, married, and have a kid on the way....
but I'm selfish like that:)
( though on a side note tons of people found their way to Firefly through Serenity so it'd be bad if it hadn't been made)

Definitely. By favorite movie, I mean the movie that I enjoy the most, not the movie that I consider to be the best.

Serenity is my favourite movie too!
What makes it more special is that we had so much waiting time from the end of the series.. so much hope and suspense. Often in those situations a movie can be anticlimactic but Serenity didnt disappoint.

I think, had the story continued in a graphic novel, it may have eventually found it's way to the same end, but I expect there would have been a lot more story to it than we got in Serenity. However, I don't know that I would have been happy or liked it better than the movie, because I'm not sure it translates to the printed form as well. I haven't been overly enthusiastic about the comics, I think they could be better... let's say 'fuller' than they are. They leave a lot out that we would pick up on if we were watching the actors and what they bring to the characters.
That being said, while I like Serenity okay, I hands down love the series 100 times more. I'm one of the few(?) who wasn't particularly pleased to see River become River the Reaver Slayer. I found her much more interesting before she was 'buffyized' (am I the only one that thinks Joss needs to move on from this 'girls empowered by kicking ass with kung fu' thing?) I thought she was much creepier when she could 'kill you with her mind'. I think , as has been said, Serenity was given as a bit of closure for the fans, not as an open ended film just waiting for a sequel, much as I'd like one (I'll take anything new in the 'verse!!!) From things Joss has said in the commentary, and from the unanswered questions on the show, we know there was so much more story to tell here. So, I'm less happy that Serenity, for the most part, represents the end of that story (or what we're likely to see of it) But, given that that's probably the last we're going to see of our beloved 'verse on film or tv, I'm glad for it.
It's a difficult and emotional question really, that, for me at least, cannot easily be summed up in a simple answer.

That's a good question. I would suspect it would have ended with the graphic novel's 'season' meeting the same end. However I think Joss would have definitely used the comic like he does with the Buffy Dark Horse. It would have been exactly how he would have planned it out, a lot more backstory and character growth, eventually reaching to that season 2 finale that became the movie.
Is it wrong I suddenly want it as a graphic novel?
