Ponder: If there is something in your life that is not quite what you are looking for what would be an ideal change you would like to make?
Finally being happy with my life has led me to think more about the future and I hope more people can share in that feeling.

I think that's a good ponder. Mainly because I think sometimes we don't take that step. Lots of people complain about things in their life but they don't necessarily take any action to change things.

For me it's my job. Not that I don't like my current job, but there's not enough room for advancement. As a career that just doesn't cut it. So, I'm looking to move internally in the company to a job where there is more opportunity. Hopefully that will improve my life a bit. Then I'll move on to fixing the next best thing that can improve my life.

I would not change a thing. Every thing I have done, decision I have made has put me exactly where I am today. Yes there are things I don't like but how do I know that changing even one minor thing that I hate will allow me to have everything thing I already have and cherish? Not worth the risk.

HUGS Kelkhil... I'm with you. I think there are a few tiny steps I might undo, but then if it changed the outcome it'd be awful. I am so incredibly happy with where I am I'd never take it back

Though I will say I plan to make the change of jobs to go back to teaching. I've enjoyed the experience, but honestly I miss having students and I'm just not as good at this as I am at teaching.

Though I think some people don't change because they can't see the pattern they've made. I just saw a friend step once more into her pattern of picking men who are emotionally unavailable. ( the one time a guy actually changed and became available and ready to form a deep emotional bond she dumped him )

Wow. That's a lot. Not sure I could do that job with such a loathing for stupid people and violent tendencies and all.

Kinda wished I would have done re-cert to train shooters for various reasons/mentalities. The market exploded and asshats jumped on board that I'd rather not deal with. May need to reconsider now that so many are being recognized for their asshattery.

he's not giving us the assignment until after we read the play @_@ but still, if it's a "pick a topic from Caesar to write on, good luck" thing, I'm screwed, 'cause I mean, it's a history. wtf can you really argue about history except what happened? This is a play about Brutus, really, not even Caesar. it's why Brutus helped kill Caesar and what happened afterward. It'll be interesting to see what he gives us.

I am really hating only having one eye. Well, still have both of them. The right is so cloudy that I can't even focus beyond the rear sight/optic enough to see the target. I can shoot left handed with long guns and there is not much of a change with handguns. Not sure what I'm really bitching about other than the loss of proper depth perception.

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh* well, mr. long-winded already compared brutus to antony when we discussed it; he was making a HUGE deal over these three lines on one kriffing page, and complaining that we weren't getting it. we were like "WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT US TO SAY???? CAESAR LIKES ANTONY. WHAT ELSE CAN WE SAY ABOUT THOSE THREE KRIFFING LINES???? WE'RE NOT WRITING A DISSERTATION ON IT!!!!" He was pounding us with the "some of shakespeare's greatest moments are in little insignificant lines like these" and we were still "yeah, and all he's saying there is that Caesar favors Antony. they're friendly. you've said that, you haven't said anything BEYOND that, can we talk about something else?"

I'm used to professors allowing students to bring things up that they found intriguing, and sometimes leading the conversation a bit and prodding until the students DO spark something that can be drawn into a bigger discussion. This guy seems to only want to talk about what HE finds intriguing. *melts into a puddle of exhaustion*

Identity crisis then gender issues. What next, pregnancy?

I have a developing cataract in my right eye due to what I am told is "head trauma". It might not be as serious as I say, but for someone who could see a human form well over a mile away and could shoot 15 yard targets with a my 1911 at over a hundred yards the eye issue seems a bit limiting. Driving at night turns into a gambit of logistics and calculation without stereoscopic vision. On the bright side my left eye only requires a corrective lens which has already improved my vision in that eye greatly.

Seems I've always wanted a blue Fu Manchu and this morning it was denied because of "baby" issues. I was thinking of a getting monocle for the left eye or a patch for the right. But without the ability to actually grow facial hair longer than an inch I guess the disappointment is a bit misdirected.

Hey all, long time no visit, keep getting wrapped up in the work thing, then busy with family.

On the ponder, the only thing not to my liking right now is my living situation, sharing a duplex with in-laws, great people but just too intrusive in out lives. So, I would change that. To our own house. NO other family.

Of course he does not see that if the entire class does not see his point, then maybe it is his problem. I have to read Shakespeare over and over again and also read the commentaries before I understand what Shakespeare is trying to imply. After all, the terms he used date back several hundred years and no one knows them now. He also uses words out of context.

*double post alert* wow Traveler, we muste've posted at the same exact time XD but yeah,i think maybe he dwells a little too much on one subject sometimes :P not to say he doesn't have his comical or comprehensive moments, but even my high school english teacher (grammar queen + intense shakespeare FANATIC = d.mattei) didn't dwell for too long on a single subject in Bill's plays. XD

but, on a happier note, when the bf was watching Top Gear tonight, one of the guys said 'let loose the dogs of war" and i was like "teehee, Caesar, act four *spazzdance*" XD i love it when stuff like that happens. it's like an in-joke, more so with the obscure quotes, but still.

The whole "Cry Havoc" line really isn't that obscure. Seems it is so ingrained in modern society/pop culture that most people either don't pay attention to it when it is said or have no damn clue as to where it came from or to what it is referencing.

How much of Shakespeare have you read? Have you seen any of the plays acted out? Have you vocalized any of the material with the intent of experiencing it rather than just reading it aloud? I am no expert. Hell, I don't even really like much more than a sonnet or two of his. But it is clear that the teacher might be trying to catch you and your classmates up on material, ideas, and perceptions you should have experienced in early high school.

I'll put it this way: I have a tenth grade education, work experience, and a few college credits in human service and case work studies. Really, I am VERY undereducated. When I read it is at the rate of human communication complete with pauses, annunciation, physical gestures, and accent. Most things take much longer to read than originally intended. Couple that with PTSD and what is likely a learning disorder called Dysgraphia, there are more than a few strikes against me.

Despite all that and having NOT read Julius Caesar I can still summarize the basic story and themes within just from what I have heard from other people, the elements of the story I've seen in pop culture, and from actual history of the time. All I can say is sack up, get past it, move on. Your "teacher" is preparing you for what he has in store for later on. The tests and finals aren't the actual "tests". The test is in your willingness to learn and your mettle.

If you don't understand this basic summary then you might want to consider an alternate path of study:

lol, true, but it's still fun with the really obscure ones. earns a giggle XD

I've read quite a bit of Shakespeare over the years ><;; *slaps self upside the head in Gibbs fashion* I try to read it out loud as much as possible because, well, you have to. They make more sense with the pauses and gestures and the emotion of *speaking* than just being read on a page (and yeah, that takes a long time, but for the sake of figuring out what the hell he's trying to say, it's worth it). You're right, he's probably trying to catch us up or something, but he seems to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get *us* to come up with what he's thinking, and because we're not mind readers, we sometimes never figure that out. I guess I'm just of the mindset that if you're trying to get a point across, and we're not getting it on our own, it's a waste of time to spend an entire class on trying to make us get it when there could be other stuff we haven't discovered that could spark more fulfilling and productive discussion. :\

I don't know ><;; its 7:30am and my brain is still half asleep, I'm more than likely rambling.

Regardless, you seem very intelligent, NV ^_^

One of my favorites is "Much ado about Nothing".
I understood most of this play and then I saw the film with Denzel Washington. It was the very end and all but the prince started dancing through the courtyards. They leave the prince standing alone.
Not till that moment did I realise the prince had no one to dance with. No one to share any joy.

The term comedy has changed over the centuries. This story had its humor, but it also had very dramatic scenes. Kenneth Branagh did a fine job of giving the sadness and anger the same measure as the joy.

Shakespeare does need to be seen. Fine points can be missed when just read.

I have a friend who used to go to London for a week just to see plays there. The economy on his business has forced him to cut back on these trips. He always took in one Shakespeare play besides the more contemporary plays being shown. At least I got to hear him talk about them.

Got hoot out of the Klingon "Hamlet".
I can see the Klingons getting into Shakespeare. A lot of vicious politics. They can relate to that.

I can only imagine the mass panic that would have occurred if there was an evacuation signal. Do we end up running out onto the runway type area? I'm sure the ground crew would just love a ton of panicked people running all over like mad.

I can see all the fleeing people now Zeek.... I really don't like the fire alarms that give you the instructions. We had one in our school. It'd bleep then say " there is a fire, please leave the building" and one of my students looks at me and says " Hey we're special ed and even we know that"

So um...help the clueless out? What new stunt (if it is a new stunt) did teh bugger do? (And fyi HIMYM isn't one of teh comedies that I've _gots_ to see, so...um...yeah...I have very little clue why Ted is considered a douche either...unless it's because the character is very much like the "Neil Patrick Harris" in Harold and Kumar films -- well, without the coke-sniffing and women falling all over him 'cause he's "Neil Patrick Harris".)*

Yes, I tend to have a bit more of a guy's taste in movies...with the exception of horror movies. (I'm the one watching "Twilight" wanting to do MST3K on it -- yes, I was sitting there making the "gag me" and "shoot me" hand signs throughout the movie -- even though it was the first time I saw it, and wanted to Joaquin Phoenix's character to just die and be done with it in M. Night Shamylan's "The Village".)

Jimmy Fallon and Dane Cook are just douchy unfunny asses that, for whatever reason the universe provides, are still celebrities people seek for some sort of amusement. And who thinks Huge Jackoff (Hugh Jackman) is hot? Really? I'm still surprised he was able to pull off the role of Logan at all. Seems Logan was a fount of testosterone and animal rage that few people could ever understand. But throw in the limp wrist and teach him to emulate his balls dropping and Logan is now marketable. Yeah, I know, "fictional character". I am just sick of the media and the gentle emasculation of the world in the name of social acceptance and profit.

ADD: I say all this and after realizing that I have been logged out and have just said all this under the guise of my wife makes me look to be an even bigger asshole. Yay me!

Okay, maybe I can't blame Hugh for the issues I have with certain casting choices but I can say there is more he could have done for the role. I'm just not really sure what makes him so great. Despite my dislike for him and Nicole Kidman I thought Australia was quite good.

There are always going to be overated celebrities.
And there will be some who do not get their share.
Who got more press? Was it Mr. West or Taylor Swift after that stupid incident on that awards show that really has no meaning? Mr. West showed up on Jay Leno's new show after behaving like an ass. I would have canceled his appearance. But celebrity does not work that way. Before television the awards given out to performers were a quite afair with just the press in attendence to write an article on the winners of the event. Now, with TV cameras covering the events, they have become a three ring circus. They have to take a break in the awards giving and put on a show for the audience. Mr. West put on a show and is now getting more headlines then ever before. Celebrity is just the media chasing after their next story. The test of time proves if someone really had talent. I have a collection of videos that date back before sound. You really had to act then to make your ideas and feeling come across. To those who appreciate talent it is not color or flash, but giving an honest performance. And that is a personal thing for you. Take the tabloids and throw them in the trash and stick with the true test and that is owning the works you feel worthy of. Buy the videos of the films and actors you enjoy. That is all that counts. Support them that way. Let the others fall to the wayside.

Normally I run 3 miles a day... it's really good for you so long as you have quality shoes. I will say I'm glad I've done the marathon twice, but I don't recommend it more than that:)

What about like a stationary bike or something? Wouldn't that be better on joints and such? I always figure if I go on an exercise kick I'd get a stationary bike over a treadmill.

people tend to hunch on bikes so it's not good for your back, but any exercise is good... really if you're going to invest in a piece of equipment I'd suggest and elliptical trainer they are the most effective and lowest impact.

Ok if it hurts you're doing it wrong Avery sweety... make sure you stretch first and check your stride and really you have to have really good shoes. try brisk walking instead of running 'cause that's really really good for you... and you can check with the local marathon and see if they allow half marathon competitors

If you get an exercise bike, make sure to get a recumbent bike. For about $200 you can get a good one. No hunching over or anything. I either read a book or watch tv while I'm riding, so it makes the whole exercise thing seem to go quicker.

I'm also training for my first marathon right now (it's in about 6 weeks), but I still ride the bike on the "rest" days in my training.

Yeah the shoes are pretty damn old. That could be my problem. If God ever decides to let me work again I could try investing in a good pair of sneakers.

I hate stationary bikes. I go crazy on them and a half hour later its alike "calories burned: 10"

I prefer the elliptical. Its my go to machine when I go to the gym. Get a crazy good work out on it with out feeling all sore after.

Solar... wow good luck on the marathon. All I can say is start slow, try to stay at an even pace and make sure someone can drive you home after... the last 2 miles are the hardest, but you can do it

I hear ya, Avery.

Running is hurtful on the me. Not to mention it's boooooooooooooring, and I never feel good afterwards. Frankly I feel like shit after running, and I never improve :\ or improve very very little. Maybe I just am lacking something other runners have. Biking is more my cup of tea.

I ran a mini last year, and it went well. Then I broke my leg to start the year. (Not fun.) But my training has gone well, and I should be good for the full marathon in a few weeks.

Also, I love the elliptical machines. Very good workout with no impact. I try to use them in my training routine. For example, if I'm supposed to run 10 miles in a night, I try to do the elliptical for forty minutes and then run just six miles. It reduces the wear and tear.

But I think the recumbent bikes are a little more affordable (for home use).

And may I just say the Ogden marathon course sucks it's all up or down hill the entire time and the last mile and a quarter is slight uphill ...nearly kills you

As far as biking and hunching over goes, modern non-stationary bikes (and probably the stationary ones, but I don't know) have been specifically designed to reduce that problem and promote better posture. Anything made within the last year or so keeps the rider upright, as long as the seat height and everything is properly adjusted.
