It seems as though David Fury and Anthony Stewart Head might be teaming up to do a 22 episode Dr. Who series for BBC. Things have yet to solidify, but it's interesting for what it's worth.

The Beeb is denying this story, though they also said the thought it was a pretty good idea. Lots of kind words about the Mutant Enemy bunch. Big discussion on Slashdot:

It occurs to me that Head is to solemn an actor to make a good Dr. Who. But what about Fury himself? "They got the mustard out" indeed!

I was *shocked* to see that David Fury could actually sing! Well, maybe not shocked... but I do think he had one of the best voices of the entire musical.

About Head: He's a very... unrestrained person in the real world, and yet he plays a solemn librarian in Buffy (his real accent is the one he used in Band Candy!). I think that he's just a great actor and could easily pull off Dr. Who... or maybe I'm just hoping we might hear more of his real accent...

Yeah, I have to admit the parts I've seen him play are Giles, the Taster's Choice gigolo, and a very minor part on some sitcom. So maybe he can be crazy.
Hmm. As I've said before, I admire SMG's schiziness. I particularly like the scene where BPBF (figure it out) is standing in front of the mirror practicing saying "I could do that -- but it would be wrong." (Alas, FX cuts this scene down to nothing.) Hey Joss! Let's have a scene where Buffy channels Giles!
I read somewhere that Whedon was a shocked as anybody to discover the amount of singing talent in his cast. (Particularly Emma Caulfield, who sounds as if she's time-warped in from a 1934 Broadway musical!) Apparently the actors have these little rehearsal meetings where they run through the scripts in various modes -- as if it were Shakespeare, as if it were a gangster movie, and of course singing their lines. (This is a common acting technique.) Whedon overhead such a session -- and had an idea for a story...
But yeah, having his two main writers sing -- and sing very well -- is really a bit much. I just wish the Parking Ticket Song had been a bit longer....

That would *hysterical*. I can just imagine Giles acting like Buffy. God that would be great...

The funniest part is that these little sessions are done at Joss's house. Apparently, he hosts a Shakespeare party-get-together ever Saturday. He invites all of the cast/crew/writers from the set and they rehearse Shakespeare and sing and stuff. :Whimsical sigh: Just another one of the many reasons I wish I were on the Buffy cast/crew/writing staff.

I wish the episode were a 2 hour long movie event... maybe we would have seen some of the other members of the crew perform a little dity.

Saw an interview with SMG in which she wondered why anyone would buy the DVDs when they can just watch the reruns on FX. Another entertainment monopoly person who doesn't consume her own product. Hello! Sarah! Editing for Time!
