I am sorry for your situation. It seems that many "managerial types" at different levels in the food chain are taking advantage of the economy to settle personal (as opposed to personnel) issues.
I went from 60 +hours a week to 16-24+patial unemployment in January.OTOH;I have a couple of very solid opportnities( one of which I interview for tomorrow!).
If you do not mind my asking;what do you ordinarily do for your daily bread?(Myself-security/protective service occupations).

I am a consulting teacher ( I train and teach other teachers to deal with behavior challenges etc) but I'm only doing that for one more year then I want back in the classroom ( sick of teaching adults as it's no where near as satisfying as teaching the kids)

NV is the manager of a site that takes in kids with drug and alcohol issues and have been removed from their homes by the court and helps in their rehab.

Thats honorable work....employment wise ;I seem to get "Jayne-type"jobs more often than not.Not complaining;but it IS kind of funny to see me trying to teach ANYTHING without resorting to "Because to NOT do that would annoy me"(well, I am not THAT bad;but you get the idea).
I am pretty certain you will both pick up something soon enough-this board does NOT seem to attract skill-less/clueless types.

Oh I have a job... NV's the one who had his yanked away. I work for a local school district. I'm just off track right now, but in a few weeks I'll be back to setting up classrooms, teaching how to discipline and control special ed students with behavior problems and doing behavior intervention plans and training for individual kids.... sigh

Hey Jayne jobs are needed... someone's gotta make sure people stay in line:)

Not sure where to file this day.

I've been terminated. Near to a decade of service was ended due to my insubordination towards a micromanaging control freak two tiers above me on the chain of command. Of course I have reasons, not excuses for my lack of cooperation with certain directives. And my parting was very civil. No tears, a ton of smiles, and I didn't tell her to eat a dick. I may or may not be filing a grievance. But that is tomorrow.

Tonight is time for beers!

That happened recently where I worked - micromanagers taking advantage of the recession in order to cut the costs from one end cos they were unable to cut them from the other. Luckily I was NOT one of those who got let go, but I lost some good friends and co-workers in that mess.

I was laid off in the past, at a job when my wife was 8 months pregnant. The only up-side was that I hated the job so much that every day on the drive in I sought desperately for some master plan that did not necessitate my going to work. When I was laid off I should have been worried, but instead I was so relieved that I didn't have to go there anymore. The panic came a few days later.
;p

Focus on the bad shit that you no longer have to go back to. That's the only way to not totally fall apart in a situation like this.

And with your open minded attitude towards employment, I'm sure you'll find something soon.

Well I'm glad you're still ok Schism:)

LOL kind of ironic.. I'm NV's wife and I'm 5 months pregnant. He's been hating his job a lot recently... hmm ok maybe that's like a warning... guys if you have a pregnant wife and hate your job you might be about to be laid off.

I agree, and also, jerks who want to micro-manage and control and stifle any sign of iniative are usually the ones who WANT to be in control or other people, just so they can do all that to them with impunity. I hate them too, always have, can't believe they can go day to day living inside their own heads. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
