Season One of the latest cult hit in Joss Whedon’s repertoire, “Dollhouse,” comes to DVD and Blu-ray Disc July 28 (prebook July 1) from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

I just saw this on Amazon today. In a way, it's very sad. The season just ended, and you can already pre-order the DVD set that is being released in two months? It seems like the only reason to make a show is so it can be sold on DVD. I see the first season of Castle can be pre-ordered as well.

In an age of 300 channels, where even a "hit" show can barely find an audience, is it a bad thing for the networks to try to drive interest with sales of DVDs? Movies are coming out much faster on DVD, too - I see "Taken" is out on disk now, and it's still in the theatre here in Austin!

If this is what it takes to drive the new entertainment, I'm okay with that. And if I were someone who'd only seen a few eps of Dollhouse and wanted to see more, buying the DVD set wouldn't be a bad thing.

And it might help drive more interest in the show and help keep it alive. Personally, I'm not crazy about Dollhouse, but if it gets another season (as is rumored to already be a done deal), at least it's better than Dancing with the Has-Beens.

I understand what you are saying. And I would respond to my own post by saying: "Gee, the networks want to make money? Go figure!"

It just gives me this sense that the whole purpose has moved away from making quality shows to "just get us to 13 episodes so we can put it on DVD."
