Hi guys.Just to let you know that Im new to firefly and am now hooked. Got into the series after picking up the movie in a supermarket bargain bin!!!!Anyway, i might be going over old ground here so apologies if youve heard it before. In "objects in space", River picked up Book's thoughts. He actually says "I dont care whether you're guilty or innocent;so where does that leave you?
To me, this indicates that Book is actually an alliance operative and is on board to track the Tams in amore subtle way in order to evaluate her behaviour. I think the Shepherd routine is just a well conceived cover story. He was actually off the ship supposedly in The Abbey at one point. reporting to his superiors I think. I think the Hands of Blue have no idea of his involvement as it is top secret. This would also explain his ID override on alliance cruisers. Am I talking kak or sense here. Glad to be aboard by the way.

Hi Peacekeeper,
(Spoiler Alert)
We know that Shepard Book is not an operative looking for the Tams because we have seen his beginning, middle, and end in the series if you include the movie Serenity. We do know that Shepard Book has very detailed knowledge of criminal activities and in Safe we learn that he has a clearance to get medical treatment on Alliance ships without questions, but it has been speculated as to why. We do know that his name is Derrial Book, but Ron Glass revealed at a convention that it is not his real name and is in fact the name of a person he killed before joining the Southdown abbey. I believe it is also revealed that Derrial Book was some sort of crooked cop before he became a Shepard. I think he was some sort of Operative who lost his faith and went to the one place where he could find it again.

I still think he is The Operative returned somehow from the future to help the crew albeit somewhat indirectly.

Hopefully one day soon, we'll get a comic book with the good Shepard's story. And I think it'll be a good one!
Lots of other stuff going on around here too. If you're near one, go to a "Can't Stop the Serenity" screening. It's a Browncoat effort to support Joss Whedon's favorite charity, Equality Now, with Serenity on the big screen once again.
Nathan Fillion also supports a charity, KidsNeedToRead, an effort to get books for kids into underserved libraries and other places kids go.
Support the BDH's in their new series and movies. The more they are known, the better chance we have for a sequel.
Adam Baldwin is on "Chuck"(I'm sure Major Casey is a better educated ancester of Jayne Cobb, Summer Glau is in "The Sarah Conner Chronicles", Nathan Fillion's new series "Castle" starts March 9 on ABC and he plays Major Steve Trevor in the new "Wonder Woman" DVD. Alan Tudyk has a DirectTV commercial airing and will be guest starring in Joss Whedon's new series "Dollhouse". And last but not least Mark Shepherd will be doing "Battle Star Gallactica" again.
I guess I have this duty by default now. *roots around in the dark closet, pulls out a dusty brown coat, slaps some of the dust off and hands it to Peacemaker*
Wear it in good health and spread the word about Firefly and Serenity.

Do you think we will see a comic book about Derriel Book? From the interview I saw of Joss in Australia I sensed he really wanted to address the book story in Serenity 2.

It maybe a while until the comic because of all of Joss's projects but I do believe we'll get one, if not Serenity 2 it self (my preference really).
Joss did mention a Shepherd Book comic some time ago but I don't know where.
