You accused him of being racist by using that language. What makes him racist is not using the term, but rather the meaning of the term. If its not racist language its just language and using otherwise neutral language is not racism.
So your example, defending a person who stabbed someone by saying "they didn't shoot them" is correct. But if a person were accused of shooting the person they stabbed...such a defense is reasonable because they are NOT GUILTY of the accusation.

Or, in other words bigotry is ok, as long as Hero can twist it in to not being racist. So saying "all Americans are evil" is 'otherwise neutral language' because American isn't a race. Thanks for clearing that one up
I still maintain it was racist. I said EVEN IF it wasn't, racist is still a term that would fit perfectly well, because it's the same bigotry just aimed at a group that doesn't happen to be a race. A racist by any other name is still a bigoted little twat, and equivocating on the exact name of their bigotry, doesn't actually make it better. Though it sure does seem that you're hoping to make it so by the application of sophistry. If it's not directed at what Hero considers a race, it's not racism, therefore it's "otherwise neutral language", please? If that's the sort of sophistry you employ in the court room they must have some real stupid juries where you're from.
Actually, what I was getting at, is that someone who says "all Americans are evil" can be said to be making a racist comment, even though Americans aren't a race. And by equivocating that "it's not racism because American's aren't a race" is defending bigotry, and attempting to make it sound like its "otherwise neutral language" when it's nothing of the sort. It's an emotive way of giving racists a free pass, actually. You're trying to cut racism down to something that only exists in such a narrow form that pretty much every racist there ever was could rightfully stand up and use your definition to prove they weren't racist.

For non-smokers, its smokers. For skinny people, its fat people, for eco-freaks, its suv-drivers, for the Japanese its everone else...and on and on and on.
Its a human condition. Its just the way we are. We ALL want to fit in our own little group/troop and feel better than some OTHER group/troop.
I mean lets say you are a fat, ugly, shell of a human, who can't get laid to save their lives....well at least you don't drive an SUV, right? Thats makes you better than someone else, right?
