Huh. I never thought about Googling my username.

With the "e" in stoweaway, I get 1,770,000. And only a few are actually for me.

Seems there's a lady with Greenpeace who has the same username as me. And the most entries are for a popular restaurant in Stowe, Vermont.

Though with enough page turning, it is possible to track my Internet activity -- digg, Twitter, flickr, etc.

This has definitely been an enlightening exercise. Thanks, FMF.

I used to be the number one hit in google for a while when I used my screen name or my real name. Luckily real life me has since got more boring and doesn't show up quite as often.

I used to try searching me and all my friends and families names when I got bored, see the kinda crap it came back with. I always had a faint glimmer of hope that one day that dude I used to work with might have taken over uganda or that my mom was reported to have saved a cat from a burning house or something.

I never thought to search by my user name, either.

Mine nets 41 million hits, but very few are actually me. In fact, in the six pages I've gone through so far, only one is me and it's for this board!

My top result right now is USScots.com. Sadly, FFF.net hasn't been one of my top destinations lately, so it came in a solid 5th. Apparently I'm not on Storycrafter enough to bring that one up at all.

I was enlightened once upon doing a Google search to find that "Channain" is a place name in Scotland - WAY up in the northern highlands, there is a lake with my name on it. Consequently, it's also a Scottish surname, sept to the MacMillans, possibly originally from Ireland, but I'm not entirely positive on that one.

I thought I just made it up. Now I wonder if there isn't some genetic memory involved. I'm Scottish on my wee mum's side - the Ferguson clan. So now I'm hoping that the Fergusons and the MacMillan's aren't in the midst of a clan feud.

Yeah, I've Googled "phyrelight" before, and I've gotten mostly hits for here, a couple other sites I subscribe to, and some gamer in Texas that I've never met who has the same screen name as me. (It has been mine for years, so this guy better not have any qualms about it!)

I've also searched my real name, and the results are a small-time R&B singer and a dominatrix. *snort*

I've Googled my real name before too. There are a few copies of me running around the U.S.
One is a high-powered executive and the other a rather accomplished Special Olympian.

But I try not to Google myself too much. My mother always told me I would eventually go blind.
