I should have mentioned In Bruges - thanks for the reminder.
Also Lady in the Box (2001) Not wide release, but really surprisingly good film, and story.

Q&A with Nick Nolte bad ass, Murphy's War with Peter O'Toole serving as machinist mate of the royal irish merchant marine, and Empire of the Wolves frenchy but good. Not bad flicks.

Another is Dangerous Beauty (Moira Kelly, Catherine McCormack), about French equivalent of Registered Companions (in Venice?) at a time of French collapse/decline. I found it viusally stunning cinematography.
I did not provide a summary of some I mentioned. Suspect zero might sound like a serial killer deal, but the subject matter is really a topic I won't reveal, but of interest to River-ability fans.
Lady in the Box is mystery, or thriller, an ending I couldn't predict. Normally I can see the ending miles away, this one had me guessing til the end.
Fate is the Hunter is the story of an investigation after an aircraft crash.

Some great picks here folks.
Most notable to me are:
Fandango - one of Costners best films IMO.
In Bruges - Tragic, funny and perfectly delivered.
The Duellists - fantastic film.
Le Bossu - a great French film with the superb Marie Gillain.
On that note I would like to add:
L'Appat (The Bait) - another French film with Marie Gillain (yes I'm a fan). Brilliantly played piece about young adults pulling a scam that gradually gets out of hand.
Lawn Dogs Sam Rockwell and Mischa Barton form a true friendship as the 'outcasts' in a community. Very touching with an excellent ending.
Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Tim Roth and Gary Oldman in a superb and slyly funny take on Shakespeare's Hamlet.
Mean Creek Great little tale (featuring the Culkin kid that can act) about a boat trip to get revenge on a bully that reveals some other truths.
There's probably more but that'll do for now...

I have to thank everyone for In Bruges.I bought and watched this film last night,and loved it.How did this film fly so low under the radar?I was getting ready to write Colin Farrel off too.He was great in this.

Glad you liked it! I was in the same boat as you, prepared to avoid anything Colin Farrel was ever associated with. This movie may have changed that.

It's a film that rewards the 'Film Noir' fan as it splices clips from old black and white film noir into it's own narrative. I can't believe I forgot this. Anyone else seen it? Steve Martin's best!
