I'll second that... I swear I posted something about him earlier. Meh, oh well.

Inara's gonna get annoying real quick if they keep focussing on the 'mystery' aspect. It'd be better if they actually left her mysterious, like, gave us nothing that way we wouldn't know how she would react to stuff, keep it fresh.

I want the Zoe/Wash relationship to be important, otherwise he's just Harper and she's just Gina Torres playing Gina Torres again.

I want Book to be scary like Zhaan, but he probably wont be.

Summer 'Christini Ricci' Glau could do well if they don't fall into the normal psychic pitfalls. I want a psychic who knows things clearly, not vague and mystical; and who has no guilt about messing with people' heads, or trying to restrain her 'power'.
Her bro just keeps reminding me of Guy Pearce's Time Machine fella.

Jayne may turn into Tyr, but the actor's good so it may be a bit more subtle.

Kaylee may be early-Willow, so I should like her.

(I'm sorry I keep referrring to everyone by someone else, but I have restricted schema.)

I think the most interesting character will be Mal, coz he's new. I want him to be horribly flawed in as many ways as possible! Oh, and he is the spit of my friend Dave!!!

I don't get these constant comparisons to other characters from other sci-fi shows.

Joss Whedon is a far more talented writer than most (I'd say any) of the writers who developed the characters to whom people keep comparing Firefly's cast. They'll be much more round and developed and... real... than any of their "ancestors."

It's pretty pointless to bring out superficial similarities and instantly say a character will be the same as another character from another show. Sure, they may have similar positions on the crew, but they most certainly will not be like anything we've seen in a sci-fi show. And if they are, they'll be given a new spin and different motivations.

It's fine to compare, and I don't want to look like I'm trying to inhibit anyone's fun... I just don't get it.

One thing about River... she's not a full-fledged psychic. She's a "borderline" psychic... if that helps clear up any internal conflicts you have.

okay, yeah, you're right.
completely off subject, how old are the characters? Clearly Book is older, but is River much younger?, both she and Kaylee appear quite young, but then so does Mal for a captain.

Ok, ok, my favorite is a poor choice since we haven't seen a episode yet.

As much as I have been enjoying this site since discovering it a month or two ago, I have to say that the whole idea of getting into these types of discussions seems kind of ridiculous to me. Speculating what kind of show it might be is one thing, but speculating things like 'favorite character' or 'coolest thing about the ship' or stuff like that just feels ... well ... not to be mean, but kinda stupid. Maybe a better word would be incredibly premature.

Show me clips of wonderful conversations with the show's creators and staff. Speculate about what kind of show it might be. Give me fun rumors to spread about the production as a whole.

But please, just wait till you've actually seen the show to start up with the typical fandom junk.

Besides, if this is what I expect to see from Whedon & the ME folks, it will never be about which character, or season, or episode is my favorite, becasue they all will rock! It'll be about things like the story as a whole, character development and relationships. It'll be about truth and beauty and honest representations of our own lives, wonderfully disguised in a Genre piece. It'll be about many things, but in my mind, playing the 'favorites-game' isn't one of them.

oh, and I really am not as much of a as I come off. No really, I'm not.

Hey, you're absolutely right. But this is what fans do. Don't you know where the word comes from?

Have you seen the official website's message board for Firefly? They're still ranting about how Dark Angel got cancelled because of Firefly.

Our discussions may seem a bit premature, but at least they're discussions.

BTW, welcome to our little online community here.

please note that the following is not directed at the author of the above quote, Haken.

Yes, I am sure it is all Joss' fault (along with co-conspirators Mutant Enemy, Fox, the Kazuis, and whoever else they wanna blame) that D.A. got cancelled. Had nothin' to do with the show's own inability to keep TPTB @ the network happy enough. Nope, it's never the fault of the show that got cencelled, only the show that took its time slot.

OK, I am done ranting at people who aren't even here[/] to read it.

Pardon me while I
