....a film with a good solid plot.
I see a reason to view Portman and Weaving,
so that the message may never be forgot.

Well, it is the fifth my fellow Browncoats. Fireworks explode outside, the air is decidedly nippy and the best tradition of all - it's raining.

So as part of my own (relatively recent) tradition, I have just rewatched V For Vendetta - a film I love. I think it looks right, the acting is great. I like the fact that you never get to see V, most films would reveal his scarred face at the end.
But mostly I like the message about how powerful an idea can be once set in motion, far more than any person(s) could ever achieve.

So anyone else watch this?
Anyone other film traditions (excl. Halloween as that was done in another thread)?

Funny you should mention this movie! The Colony Theatre in Raleigh, NC( http://www.therialto.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view
&id=12&Itemid=26) is screening this movie tonight. Since they are also screening Serenity on Dec 4, they will show the trailer of the BDM before V For Vendetta. Some local browncoats will be there (unofficial bc get-together). I won't, unfortunately. I have work in the morning.

But, I will be there on Dec 4. Some of us will be meeting somewhere nearby for a holiday gift exchange. I'll post more details as the time gets closer (i.e.-something like a couple weeks).

FYI for anyone who's going to go: The Colony is a CASH ONLY establishment. And, I hear they have frozen candy bars.

I enjoyed V. My daughter (14 when it came out) is a huge fan.

I thought it was a bit over the top and needlessly destructive. If you've done away w/ the evil dictator, why then blow up Parliament, which existed long before the evil dictator grabbed power in the first place ? Isn't that a symbol of how things were before the Gov't was taken over ? I mean, the centuries old building would seem to be a testimony to the longevity of Great Britain, not so much it's tyranny over her people. But maybe that's just me.

And if brazen anarchy is the message, fine, but what after ? Do we resort to full blown social Darwinism ( a term he absolutely rejected, btw ) and the strong always win, regardless ? Forget who, whether it was Jefferson or Franklin, but we have to face facts, that Governments, in what ever size, are a necessary evil for us to advance. At least until something better evolves.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Loved Hugo Weaving and Portman together. Also loved the fact that they didn't reveal his face and the audience had to deal with it.

It was as if to say that V was everyman. I think that his mission was more against tyranny and facism than for anarchy. What I got from the ending was that Portman's character took over for V and she destroyed the symbols that represented the evil in our society.

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!
