What a day! First day back, that's right, two day week this week and away on holiday for half term all next and it's all still rubbish lol.
Feeling grotty, had a fasting blood test this morning and completely out of whack, going to sleep in the corner now.
I'm rather fond of HK's burst of Vitriol but I haven't been the target of them yet, am only human so sure it's all a matter of time...

Complete and total shit. Every time I start to feel comfortable again at work and start to feel that things are going okay, something happens to smack me back down into a demoralized, hate-filled depression. The most recent event just floored me...
There's a girl who has been out of college and working here for one full year. So this is her first actual job as an engineer. She also did a very short term internship with my boss & my boss's boss at a different company. Generally speaking, though, internships are pretty irrelevant in this field. But after one year's work experience, she gets promoted to Senior R&D Engineer. Not only is that unheard of in this field, not only is it highly inappropriate, but it's also a huge insult to experienced engineers everywhere.
Why should I care?
Because I have 10.5 years' experience as an R&D Engineer in this industry. 10.5 YEARS. And I've been at this company for almost half of that. But I have no title, and I'm never even considered for promotion. On top of that, my annual review is 5.5 months late and no one seems to care. To twist the knife just a bit more, I'm actually more qualified and have more experience than the Principle Engineer candidates they're currently looking for to fill a couple more R&D Engineering positions.
But, you see, I'm not one of the BFFs, so I don't get any consideration. This girl, my boss, and boss's boss all worked together and are just friendly as can be with one another. My boss will spend hours at a time talking in her office with this girl, but if boss says more than two words to me in any given month, I'd consider myself lucky. And that part isn't just me; boss has two other direct reports, and she doesn't talk with them, either. One of them is also about 3 months late for his review.
My crime is that I've been here longer than they have, which seems to somehow indicate that all of my education and experience is worthless. An education, by the way, that is the exact same one as this girl and my boss; we all went to the same university and got the same degrees in the same field of study.
Out of the past 4 annual reviews I've had, only one was less than fantastic - and by that I mean the other reviewers gave me the highest marks in just about everything - and that was because the toady dick they hired was there for a whole month before he had to give me my review. Not exactly a sufficient amount of time upon which to assess someone's performance.
I'm asbolutely frustrated and furious over this, and am going to talk with HR today at 1pm. This particular HR person is someone I've known since I first started working in this industry; she's been at all of the same companies as me. Odd, but it's a surprisingly small community. Anyway, I trust her to give it to me straight, but I'm not expecting her to say anything good. And if it ends up being really bad, this could be my last day.
So... there you have it......... I'm going to go back to lurking now.

Holy shit.. That is incredible. I can't believe a company would be so pathetic.. oh wait I can. The old boys or BFF network is , in my opinion, the primary reason why most industries in America fail. Because everyone is so into " networking" and hiring, promotion, and idea consideration is based solely on who you know and not your qualifications and abilities means that a ton of good ideas and a lot of progress is lost... I listen to different people on here and other places who are tons more qualified and have a much better understanding of what should happen get pushed aside for the boss's pet... and then we're all surprised when the company fails? Not really
HK I will happily fly there and set them on fire for you, but sadly I don't think it'd help as they are simply to stupid to have any real understanding... but all the same offer's on the table HUGS

I did *not* forget, silly @_@ i would never forget another Libra's birthday, much less my brother's :P I called him and wished him a happy birthday and we're going up sunday to visit him, so there ppppbbbbbbbbbbbbbhht. ^_^
