Cat 2 "hurricane" shuts down Knoxville Tennessee
Fascism in Knoxville TN, thanks to our billionaire mayor who owns Pilot oil company. Gas prices jumped $1.50/gallon in 1 hour, with many stations closed for lack of gas. No gas deliveries until late next week.

British Petroleum was given most of the oil in Alaska, which it exports to Communist China, Japan and Mexico, then pumps most of what's left back into the ground, to drive up gas profits, er, prices in USA. Bimbo Palin won't talk about THAT.

Half of Mexico's gas comes from USA, according to Jr Bush, "since the Mexican economy comes first". Mexican govt owns PeMex Oil, which is the textbook definition of fascism. PeMex fins massive oil reserves in the Gulf, then caps those wells to drive up prices in USA.

The price of gas in Mexico is 45-cents a gallon, 11-cents a gallon in Venuzuela, and 6-cents a gal in Iraq before Bush Jr's latest invasion to cut off the supply of cheap oil to USA. Now gas is 65-cents a gallon in Iraq, thanks to Haliburton importing oil from Kuwait.
When Jr Bush first hijacked the White House in 2000 until 2004, gas was $1.00/gallon.

Our Mayor Billionaire Haslam wasn't satisfied looting City of Knoxville Muni Corp's billion-dollar CAFR "pension" fund as his private ATM to run Pilot Corp. But no, he had to charge $1 a gallon more for gas than the other crooks. Now we know why he works for "free" without a salary.
Guess you can't trust a govt that keeps 2 sets of books. Wonder why the "news" never reports on annual CAFR Reports of $70-Trillion/year in govt profits, and only mentions the Budget Report of expenses?

Jewish Lehman Bros had the world's largest bankruptcy this week, after speculating on oil prices. Lehman's BK caused, or resulted from, the price of a barrel of oil to drop below $100, but Knoxville prices went up $2.50/gallon this week.

No flip flop at all. The cause of the shortage was folks filling up through the weekend, causing a shortage that was consumer driven, not event driven, like from a hurricane. If folks used only what they needed, what they had been using, there'd be zero run on the supply at all.

The "stampede" was caused by a media blitz led by the daily monopoly newspaper's banner headline: "NO GAS!"
The TV picked it up and immediately ran with it, hyping the lack of gas "due to hurricane Ike", reported to last "one week".
So every commuter who needed to get to work that week filled up on Friday, after most of the gas stations had already raised their prices $1.50 to $2.00 a gallon.
It appeared some stations "got gas" despite no tanker filling up the station. As if it was just turned off at the pump, to create artificial scarcity. That particular new station and Lowes development got a $20-million TIF grant from the city govt, funded by annexing that part of the county and doubling taxes.
The city mayor owns Pilot Oil Corp. He also owns an oil refinery, which is the group that actually made all the profit this week. Pilot is already under criminal investigation for price gouging of hurricane victims in Florida.
The newspaper got a $20-million TIF grant, for propaganda services. It was trying to get a $1-billion TIF grant, for Scripps Howard "Universe Knoxville" HQ. Mt Scripps and Mr Howard are members of Bohemian Club.

I do believe PN has a point, even though it could not have POSSIBLY have affected them, especially so quickly - all the stations up here jumped their prices too, and upon investigation WITHOUT an increase in their supply cost.
Fuckers are just using it as an excuse, just like they do with all those mysterious spring "petroleum accidents" (a phenom I have been watching for EIGHT years now) that manage to drive prices up without ever doing any actual damage or causing any significant loss.

GA has suffered the 2nd highest jump in gas prices in the nation following Hurricane Ike, but despite a number of complaints and a task force designed to seek out and punish those stations which " gouge " customers, none have yet turned up. And only a handful turned up after Katrina. So, despite wide spread rumors, there was no gouging.
Actually, prices do go up every Spring, due to the Fed mandated emissions standards which force refineries to make cleaner burning blends of gasoline. Those mandates end in October, as prices and demand goes down, resulting in lower prices. Has your 'study' also discovered any of that ?

The station down the street from here was recently fined $4,000.00 USD for such behavior, amongst other chicanery...
And to my everlasting ire the only other gas station in town is closed with weeds growing up through cracks in the pavement cause the owner, who was a damn nice guy and a stand up fellow got freakin black-bagged by INS over some technical violation he wasn't even aware of and sent off gods-knows-where, and this in broad fucking daylight not 200 feet from my house, all cause he had the misfortune to be of arabic descent in a nation gripped by the fear and paranoia of week kneed pissants like you, Rap.
Far be it for them to have sent him a letter or assisted in fixing matters given that the guy was trying to get established here as a citizen - all the while shitheads who hop the fence get treated with kid gloves cause they ain't arabic.

You know, like concerns a couple years back about supply and one specific oil company official stating that short of a refinery fire, nothing was going to drive prices up...
Followed almost a week later by, ta-da, a refinery "fire"...
At at empty and unused tank, which did nothing more than scorch it's paint, supposedly caused by a freak lightning strike in spite of the fact that those tanks are grounded to prevent such occurances and static sparks.
Followed by a nice quick price jump that didn't go away for quite a while.
Just because the Gov fucks with the oil companies to squeeze them for more money doesn't mean the oil companies are not more than capable of fuckery to squeeze us too.
I was against adding MBTE in the first place cause I knew how that would end, and now were spending even more money to clean that fucking MBTE out of our environment, yet another case of would-be environmentalists not thinking it all the way through, sure.
But it's not like they're not capable of fuckups like this without outside intervention either, like trying to say TEL(Ethyl) was "safe" in spite of full knowledge to the contrary - a'la Radium Girls part deux.

I'd also like to see some cites of your own claims, which you never seem to feel the need to provide, specifically about those emission standards, not to be a dick, but simply because I would like to investigate that for myself and how that affects pricing at both ends and compare it for discrepencies, of which there are plenty on any other factor, as well.
As far as task forces go, that's pure theatre and I think we both know it, no matter what has been claimed - to date I only know of ONE state attorney general who's ever really put a boot in some ass over it, and we elected her Governor, but alas made the mistake of filling the empty post with a dickhead for whom payoffs, payback and politics are more important than the job at hand, which pisses me off all the more cause up TO that point he had a decent enough record that I freakin voted for his ass...
Common freakin sense will tell you that the impact of Ike up HERE in friggin michigan does not justify such an increase, especially when afterwords the price slowly climbs back down over the next ten days or so - that's just pure opportunity gouging.
