My personal favourite is the Chinese-English dictionary at http://www.mdbg.net . Not only can you get almost any word translated, but you can get it in several different contexts. Do give it a whirl. I couldn't be finishing 'The Guns of Yamenmiao' without it. 
But right now, gotta go catch up on Plan B!
