Agreed. Acutally I suggested this several months back on another thread. Why not a miniseries? Also with Sci-Fi channel serving as Serenity's home. I mean here you have a movie/tv series that has a built-in following, moreso than any other story since SW and The Matrix. This is 6 years and counting and the fans are only increasing. Their putting out a HD-DVD and yet.....

I recently read an article about Space: Above & Beyond, another Fox reject that just happened to be one of the best sci-fi TV series in, well, ever (almost forgot X-Files). Anyway, this article stated that due to some office politics (sound familiar) the TV show aired 24 eps and was abruptly cancelled. There was some talk that it was too expensive to make and of course - low ratings. Ahem! I did not hear this from any source, but I get the feeling that FF is doomed because somebody's toes may have been stepped on - if you get my drift.

Here's another problem that I forsee regarding getting any kind of tv series for our BDH. DVDs.
You see Fox has the DVD rights until, I believe, 2012. I get the feeling that unless some large corp with deep pockets coughs up several millions to buy out Fox's rights to DVDs from the tv series, we will not see our Firefly again. Why would Universal, or any other studio, want to make a tv series, mini or otherwise, when Fox would benefit from the DVD sales. So you see why Fox is anxious to get the Blu-Ray version done. They stand to make a killing from the sales. Remember the DVD sales from the series was some $60 million.

But, having said that, I'm encouraged by Universal's commitment in airing the HD version of the series. My message to Universal is - GO FOR IT! Go all the way. Purchase the DVD rights from Fox, make the miniseries, count the money. You will not be sorry. You guys will inherit millions of fans all over the world, as well as win them over, by producing several miniseries (and subsequent BDMs - Serenity 2 & 3, etc.) starring our BDH.

Please don't forget to promote the hell out of it.
Have our BDH appear on Conan, The Tonight Show, etc. Do tie-ins with other Universal produced TV shows and the like. Just like the captain says - easy, peasy!

[so - why not Serenity II?
Whitenoise II is a SEQUEL after all to a film that did not break box office records,
has little critical reputation and no cult following
(certainly not on the scale of serenity). ]

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!
