I would like to see the Fox executives who canned the show explain their reasoning for doing so. Then I would like to see them lined up and slapped unmercifully with wet noodles....

oh and the blooper reel would be nice, too

I would like to see the gag scene that has been mentioned by any number of people but has never been released. Among others, Joss mentions it in one of his commentaries on the Firefly DVD series and Jewell has mentioned it recently in an interview she gave to promote BSG.

The scene in question was shot during the shooting of "The Mission". It was the scene in which the entire cast was present, standing around the open coffin of Mal/Zoe's former comrade in the war. The camera pans in one long shot to each of the actors who are registering their sadness without speaking.

During the first take of the scene though, Nathan slipped under the camera's range from one actor to the next so that when the camera settled on each particular actor, Nathan was in each shot as well registering his dismay. The last shot was of the body in the coffin with Nathan in the coffin as well with the same sad face.

According to Joss, Nathan played it straight throughout without breaking character and all who were there have stated that it was a bravura performance.

I had expected this scene to be included on the new Serenity upgrade but it wasn't even though it has been much talked about by the particulars involved.

Since it was the most talked about gag reel of the series, it should be included on the new series DVD.

These are great suggestions everyone. I'll forward them to the people at Fox and see if we can get some of this together in time for the re-release.

Thanks!

ANI,

In regard to the above post from me about the gag reel from "The Mission" episode. Here's what Joss had to say about it on page 6 of Vol. 2 of The Official Companion to Firefly.

"The best thing that ever happened was definitely during "The Message". I think for some reason it wasn't on the gag reel. It was possibly the best piece of acting I've ever seen, which is the three-sixty [360 degree camera rotation] that Tim [as director] did while everyone was listening to the farewell message from Tracey [played by Jonathon Woodward]. And Nathan is standing with Zoe, looking kind of stricken - this is his old friend - and the camera pans around to Kaylee - and Nathan's sitting next to Kaylee, looking kind of stricken in another way. And he managed to duck under the camera and get to every single member of the cast and just look really sad [laughs]. And some of them just could not keep it together and some of them did. But I've got to tell you - it's hard to describe. And then when it finally panned down to the body in the coffin, Nathan was lying in [Woodward's} arms, looking stricken. It was unbelievable - not only hilarious, but technically proficient. He really put some thought into it. But that's Nathan."

I definately want more commentaries, as many as possible, particularly with the cast but with crew if cast members really aren't available.

Commentaries are really the only thing that would want me to go out and spend a bunch more money (I've bought many copies of the first edition) on Firefly DVDs.

It's gotta be good value for money and include some real new content, not just the stuff the fans have all seen before or new packaging.

I'm confused. Are we talking about the Blu-ray release, or a special edition on regular DVD? I did a search and the only news I can find about a Firefly re-release is the Blu-ray release.

Yes, it's for the re-release on Blu-ray. It's going to be a special DVD Box Set of Firefly/Serenity.
