You surprise me good sir.
I would have sworn on it that DA would be second, knowing how much you like the show (even with the less than perfect second season).
Anywho...
1. Firefly
2. Buffy
3. X-Files
4. Dark Angel (placed because of the second season)
5. BSG (New), Lost or Heroes. Depending on how each series holds up by the time they are finished.
Okay the last one's a bit of a cheat but it was too tough to pick as they are still airing.

Quote:I love it to death, but crappy eps in the second season, as well as no solid wrap-up finale make it impossible for me to place it above Buffy...

Quote:That's a toss up IMO...which will hold up to the end, that is.

Curiously, no one has yet mentioned Max Headroom- I almost put in place of Heroes myself...and I haven't yet seen Summer's new series, I expect to like it, but I can't consider it for my list obviously.

Seriously? Is that based on your inner 14-year-old's memory of the show or have you seen it recently?

Actually from 1974 so I was 21. I recently read the summaries of all the episodes, and although none are available to buy, reading about them brought back many great memories of that show. That show ran about the same time as Star Trek Animated series....interesting because in the STAS episode "Beyond the Farthest Star" there was a spaceship featured in it that was enormous and designed with "pod domes" for living areas. The Starlost was an enormous ark ship with pod domes, each having preserved a portion of "old Earth". But I haven't seen it in 34 years, so I guess my new # 5 would be Dr. Who.

But it really wasn't very good- choppy writing & editing, ripped off footage from Silent Running, and shot in videotape like a soap...I bet neither one of us could sit thru more than a couple of eps...

I wish I had at least one show on the list that fell into the category of Fantasy alone. Sadly I've never seen one I seriously enjoyed. Hopefully that will change soon as it appears Fantasy(Namely epic high fantasy with magic and dragons and such) may be the next "big thing" for TV series. And some could be done very well with the right material and cast/crew/writers.

Tough one.
1. Firefly

3. Highlander
4. Angel
5. Farscape
BSG and/or Lost will likely have a spot on the list, but I'll leave them off, should they totally crater before ending.

I know it's a top 5 list, but I'm breaking rules today:
6. Space 1999.
Got to show respect to the 70's!

Here are my top five:
1. Star Trek - the original - I was actually alive when this first aired and it was my intro to sci/fi.
2. Firefly - cause its the best that never got to actual lift off and soar until it was too late
3. BSG - old and new; old cause it was just after Star Wars and was really cheesy; new cause it's got grit, savvy sci/fi, and a none of the cheese (except for Baltar)
4. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century - talk about cheesy, but I loved Erin Grey in those outfits, man oh man!
5. Robotech - Okay, technically not a live show, but animation, but oh, it was great stuff watching this in university back in the 1980s. We were glued everyday at 4:30 in the dorm lounge. The first time you got to see someone die in a cartoon! I loved Lisa Hayes so much. Rick Hunter was blind not to see her for so long.

1. Firefly - the best show ever pretty much has to be the best sf show
2. Andy Richter Controls the Universe - calling this fantasy is a bit of a stretch, but totally worth it
3. Dr Who - obviously in over 40 years, some shows, some seasons, are better than others but this is consistently interesting
4. Futurama - nearly as funny as ARCtU
5. Blake's Seven - worst special effects ever, (I've seen High School drama with bigger effects budgets) didn't matter

Yup, Erin Grey in those outfits is worth the price of the dvd alone!
There is sexy, and there is Erin Grey in tight fitting shiny outfits. WOW! I don't know how Gil Gerrard made it through filming that series. If I were him, I would have done everything in my power to bed that saucy minx.

1. FIREFLY - It is leagues ahead too! No need to embelish why I love it - you all know where I'm coming from.
2. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - Well for pure entertainment and giddy joy, this just covers all bases. I can watch Buffy in whatever mood I am in. If I'm pensive I'll watch Restless. If I'm happy, then I'll watch The Zeppo, If I feel weary I'll watch The Gift, and If I want to be insprired, it's on with HUSH!
3. ANGEL - The best stunts in any TV show on a regular basis! It's funny as hell too! (no pun intended)
4. SUPERNATURAL - Love the way the brothers' individual characteristics govern where this show goes. It's beautifully shot, on occasions very dark and menacing, and every so often extremely profound.
5. BRIMSTONE - The fact that this show was cancelled mid season was a travesty of almost 'Firefly' type proportions. For me it's a strong contender for the best looking TV show ever. A superb premise that I wish would be adapted into a film.![]()
