Its likely that there's a third party after the cylinder. It probably contains something of high value on the black market, and Badger didn't want to risk his own men in getting it back. It just serves to make a boring job exciting.

Y'know, it could just be paranoia, but I've been hearing something moving around in the hold at night. *glances down at food, sees poison* Wuo De Ma. *grabs triple barreled shotgun* I'm going to check the hold.If you don't hear multiple gunshots assume the worst. *goes to hold, checks hiding places and crates, finds person in one of them. person attacks with knife, succeed in fighting him off* I assume that you're the one who poisoned my food. *shoots person in foot* Thats for trying to poison me. *shoots person in other foot* Thats for wasting rations. *shoots person in hand* That's for stowing away in the first place. *person passes out* CommanderZero!
