Yep. We likey the Jericho.
We've been watching the calendar waiting for the return for a while now. We were very happy to hear of a network that responded to the fans.

i watched it...
i had stopped watching season 1 for several reasons - which i won't bore you with, since i know you love the show - so i didn't see the last bunch of episodes. this first episode of s2 was... interesting... should i maybe have watched all of s1 before watching it?

Watching all of season one will help season two make more sense, but they explain things well enough in the premiere that you could probably get by without seeing all of the first season.
Sorry to hear you stopped watching season one. I know it doesn't appeal to everyone, if it did we wouldn't have had to fight so hard to get CBS to reverse their decision to cancel it. I hope you will give season two a chance if you like it.

Well the fans and tons of nuts that bombarded their dock in NYC for weeks.

I liked it, though I'm disappointed (with CBS, not the series) that they had to marginalize a bunch of characters (from "regular" to "recurring" or "off-screen").

Yeah, that part sucked. Unfortunately that was one of the concessions to save the show. According to Brad Beyer who plays Stanley, they had to cut the cast, cut the budget, and cut it down from a full season to just the eight episodes they have now. Lots of cuts, but it beats no season two at all.
I do like the fact it allows for more focus on the primary story and the characters integral to that storyline which will allow more depth.

I thought the episode was very good. The ratings weren't high, although having Big Brother as a lead in show couldn't have helped very much.
I wonder why they didn't show Season 1 first. A lot of people missed it the first time around, and are looking to see something new on tv rather than realty shows.

No doubt the 10pm time slot didn't help the ratings at all, that and the long delay between season 1 and this new one.
CBS did replay all of season one during Nov & Dec and currently Sci Fi is showing season 1 on Monday nights. You can also catch the episodes online at CBS.com.

"Nielsen Ratings for Tue, March 4: Jericho is Toast"
If it does bite the dust again, we should probably reach out to them; they'll be family then.

Who weeps for her only son;
There's a grave on the Pabeng River,
A grave that the Burmans shun;
And there's Subadar Prag Tewarri
Who tells how the work was done.
