Serenity/Firefly Tattoos?

hey.
i was gonna get a Serenity based tattoo.
anyone else have one?
i was going to get the BrownCoat logo...
this is it right?

This is the symbol/badge worn by the Independants during the war. Mal tears one of his superior during the fighting.
So I guess it's probably as close as you can get to an official Browncoat logo, seeing as the Independants worn nicknamed Browncoats.
I'm never quite sure (without checking the BDS) whether the pic you show is the right way up, or whether it should have the point of the triangle down. Someone else here might be able to confirm that.
It would be a cool tatoo to have though.

I personally don't have any tatoos, although if I did I have designed a couple of my own that I would choose from (a phoenix and an Egyptian ankh). Done several for other people as well.
I do love some of the artwork that can go into tatoos. There are some fantastically complex ones out there.

yeah..i was thinking that maybe the Serenity Visual Companion,or the Firefly companion books might have the symbol somewhere...
all three books,of which im hoping to get!

is this in an episode?
if so which one?
we might be able to tell which way it goes.

Thinkin' I might get the 76th badge sometime. So far this is my only FF themed tatt:

Left calf. Note the scratch marks from a friends dumb cat. Almost had some sweet and sour that night.

Gots mad skillz, loves playing with matches.

Between shoulders on upper back looks pretty good. Over one shoulder blade usaully don't look bad either.

ADD: Yeah. And the Colonel is either yawning or singing Oklahoma while everyone listens to him. Note the support on one side and the dismay on Jimi's face.

Mal tears the triangle patch off his lieutenant during The Battle of Serenity Valley in the pilot episode in order to get the authorization codes for air support. The patch can also be seen on Mal's arm when he gets up to get the codes. Here's where the confusion arises. Though both men have the patch on their right shoulders, Mal's is clearly pointing upward while the lieutenant's is pointing downward. I'm thinking it likely changes with rank or signifies squad. The patch on the lieutenant also definitely has some blue on it though I cannot tell what it is.

Those are the most accurate patches on the market today. The best resource would be the Official Companion Vol. 1 as it has pictures of at least two different patches.

As for me? I'd get a simple, small tattoo of the Chinese script for Serenity on the back of my neck, high and right under the hair-line. I'd get it on my back but the whole thing is reserved for a tattoo of an enormous ancient Banyan tree. I'm still trying to work out what I want it to look like and who I want to do it. There will definitely be a small bird, a lizard and/or snake and a pixie or sylvan like creature in the tree. To show my love of birds, reptiles and fantasy.

Edit: WOAH sorry I did have a picture of the patches but it was WAY too big... I'll just do a link to the page and you can click on the patches. Which are just a bit down the list.

I read somewhere that the original costume design designated that the triangle should be point down. When the costumes were constructed, however, it was sewn on base-down.

Don't have it yet. But I'm planning to get the word "suaimhneas" (Irish for Serenity) tattooed in Ogham (and ancient style of writing in these parts.) I'd really, really love it on the back of my neck, but may have to settle for behind my left shoulder.
