Other than a slight social awkwardness and believing in science and logic above all else, not really.
Knox was completely self-serving. All the affection he showed towards Fred was ultimately part of his plan to free Illyria. Simon, on the other hand, is selfless. He sacrificed everything he had to protect his sister, and continued to make sacrifices for his new, adopted family. He may not be my favorite person on the boat, but Simon has true strength of character, something that Know was severely lacking.

I completely agree with that. Except I would've added that Knox was an adorably goofy scum-sucking asshole who I hope is rotting in some hell dimension for all eternity.
