So yeah, maybe Reavers are lacking some brain chemical which makes them all manner of whacky, but when they engage in senseless violence the brain produces the chemical and which gives them some sense of stability. So when they kill they get an influx of the chemical which relaxes them. Killing then could be like drinking for normal people, then if they kill too much they go frenzy-ish like a shark.

River, bless her heart, got at least one dose of the Pax too. Could this be where Mr. Universe came up with, "And she would be sleepy"? He sees all, you know.

I think maybe for Reavers killing releases endorphins. You know chemicals that make you feel good and happy. In most people they are released by chocolate, alcohol, and being in love. Also it may release some calming chemical (can't remember what it's called) kind of like smoking can for some people or yoga. Yeah, that's it killing is Reaver yoga. How messed up is that?????
