What's your point exactly Jongstraw? The democrats only own one house in congress...the other is split down the middle...and can get near to nothing done.
Alot of us are impatient that nothing the dems said they were going to do is getting done, and so we're unhappy with congress...STILL. I'll reserve my judgement of the democratic congress for when it truly is one.
The only difference now in terms of poll numbers is that the approval of the 28 percenters on the right has gone bye bye because the GOP no longer controls it...purely ignorant partisanship on their part.
you going to site 81 percent after 9/11 and put the decline on Pelosi? What were the numbers before the last election again? That's a pretty transparent effort.
What I'm not happy about is Pelosi and Reid keeping impeachment off the table.
But I'm not unhappy about their inability to compromise with many of the republicans, who frankly, cannot be compromised with. They've shifted things so far in favor of the corporation in this country that anywhere in the middle is still a disservice to the American people.
Where there has been compromise this president has threatened over and over to veto, trampling the will of the people time and time again. So yeah, they can't get anything done.
Of 3 branches of government, the people own one half of one...and I'm not naive enough to believe we even fully own that half...it should be no surprise to anybody that that half has no real power.

Well it definitely does look like an anomaly. It's not a reading I would pounce on. Congress typically has lowers reading than the President at ANY time and part of that (as I metioned in a previous thread) is the simple division of power among so many Congressional members makes CLEAR progress difficult to measure.
Also, I agree with Mal4prez (Hi Mal!
) Most of our Congresspeople are lackluster triangulating politicians. It's not like deliberative bodies are mushy everywhere... why, they've had regular donnybrooks in Parliament! There's too much backscratching that comes from the lock that our two-party system has on Congress.

Well Rightous9, I can't exactly explain my point to this post. I suppose it may have something to do with the fact that Democrats have a history of living & breathing by what poll numbers tell them, and the recent Congress has failed to deliver anything that they got their supporters so riled up over last year. I also posted this most recent Gallup Poll because as others have stated here...this info is not being widely acknowledged by the media...gee, I wonder why. And that why is...because the anti-Bush Liberal Media's own numbers are all in the tank as well...NBC, MSNBC, CBS, NY Times , San Fran. Chronicle, Wash. Post et al are all suffering huge losses of readership and audiences and advertising dollars. Admitting that their one-sided vitriolic agenda has hurt Democrats is something they don't wanna do.

But your particular citation had me going ape shit, yeah. You are right about one thing, many of the democrats we have in office aren't above telling us what we want to hear. I'm not positive they don't like the status quo, frankly. I'm not positive they don't like not getting anything done. They can bitch and moan this way, and not piss off any of their corporate backers.
The only people not going ape-shit about that surveilance program are the people who don't understand its implications fully. Yeah, that was totally discraceful, and I should have remembered it when I posted above. Was that just handled by the Senate though? or did the congress weigh in? If it was the full congress, then I've got no good words.

But righteous has a point that the dems have tried to make changes, but the repubs and Bush aren't letting them. Pelosi and Reid just don't have the power.
In fact, even if this low approval rating holds out and isn't a statistical fluke, it's not purely a judgement on Pelosi and the Dems. I wouldn't even see it as a sign that the dems will lose seats in 2008. I think the reverse will happen - more repubs will get cast out so that Congress can finally clean up this mess that Bush and his cronies have made.
Well, that's what I hope, anyway...

Personally, I'd like them to start investigating some folks with the idea of impeachment on the table.
I want them to vote for election reform NOW. No more black-box voting!
I want them to go over the budget and eliminate all the pork. Yep, ALL of it. Take all that money and put it towards government-run health care.
While they're at it, reform the tax code. Make us and corporations equal.
Repeal NAFYA, CAFTA, SHAFTA and the DMCA.
Raise the minimum wage to something resembling liveable.
Pull troops out of Iraq in a year starting now. NO permanent bases there either!
Oh yeah- and REQUIRE television and radio the provide FREE airtime for Presidential and Congressional candidates.
Also Rap, I see your on the board and I had a question about what your concerns were about government involvement in health care.

a) We line up Bush & Cheney for you, and you get to execute them

Meh, I wanna see the lot of em standing in the unemployment line with no health care and having to ride the bus, if they can find and catch one, cause they can't afford enough gas to run a car.
See how they like what they've foisted on us, let them slave away as some corporations bitch and then get robbed in taxes by their own policies.
That's what I would settle for, since everyone here knows by now I would most like to see the whole feckless lot of em swingin from a rope like they really deserve.
Oh and Levin ? your constituents have by now heard ALL about you phoning in foreign policy advice from Tel Aviv where you're spending your cushy little vacation on taxpaper money - don't expect to be sittin in that chair next year, buddy, you job is to represent THIS government, not someone else's.
Realistically, I think a good move would be for the states to raise the sovereignity and nullification issue again, if the bastards on capitol hill cannot be trusted with power, start cutting them off from it... it'd mean tightening our belts a little since they'd chop federal funding on us, but if it comes to cases, the states could refuse to shell out since none is coming back, right ?
A topic in and of itself, well worth exploring.
