Does anyone pay attention to the Star Wars EU novels?

Hey, everybody. I am a big fan of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and I was wondering if anyone else was too? If so, what part of the EU is your favorite?

New Jedi Order.

I have all the "Legacy" novels, but I haven't gotten to read them yet 'cause of the unbroken chain of things-needing-to-be-done-yesterday that has been the last year-and-a-half.

Yeah new jedi order was awesome. I read pretty much all the main books up through the new jedi order. By that I mean not the young jedi novels or the prequel books or the rogue sqaudron ones.

I'll take things old school by going back to the EU that started it all, The Thrawn trilogy. I also enjoyed the Jedi Academy novels. Got about halfway through NJO when I gave up on it. Not that it wasn't good but there didn't seem to be any end in sight. Nothing irks me more than storytellers who drag things out too long.

Being a fan of the original trilogy, tho, and not so much of the prequels, I stick to the post-RotJ novels. The NJO was probably the best of the bunch so far, altho it really peaked at "Destiny's Way" and pretty much went downhill from there. I'm reading the new "Legacy" series now, but so far it's been fairly 'blah', IMO. There seems to be too much effort to relate it to our own current world events, which I don't appreciate. I read (and watch) things like Star Wars to escape from those real-world subjects for a little while into a world of fiction and fantasy.

Also, tho they're obviously aimed at junior-high school-aged readers, I really enjoyed the Young Jedi Knights series about Jacen and Jaina. They actually turned out to be fairly relevent in terms of the mainstream EU novels, with Tenel Ka and Lowbacca becoming such established characters...

I really liked the Thrawn trilogy and the X-Wing series. The NJO was fairly good, and I like the new Legacy series as well. I didn't like the prequel novels, though. In fact, the only Pre-RotJ novel that I really liked was Darth Bane:Path of Destruction.

Read most of the Young Jedi Knights series and have been a follower of the Solo kids since then. I've read a few other Star Wars books, that where post ROTJ, and a few from the prequel trilogy, surprisingly, the prequel books are better than the prequel movies.(or maybe it's not surprising.)

I read the EU till about halfway through the YJK series, then I was like - GEORGE, WHAT IN TA MA DE GUI ARE YOU DOING LETTING THESE AIRHEADS PLAY IN YOUR BACKYARD??!!? Not going to mention any names other than Hambly, MacIntyre, Anderson....them as really didn't have much of a handle on the GFFA or its inhabitants. The Corellian Trilogy, that I enjoyed. Nice to see more of a place we've only heard about by rough description.

I skimmed the NJO and Legacy a little bit, but didn't particular care for 'em. There's a bunch of us on the Jedi Council Forums ( http://boards.theforce.net) fanfic community who are feverishly engaged in rewriting the EU as if everything from NJO onward never happened. I'm...ah...slowly beginning to retread an anti-NJO trilogy I was working on a couple of years ago.

There's even a girl on those forums who's writing a very, very well-done Firefly/Star Wars crossover. Everybody's tossing her such suggestions as Have YoSaffBridge steal the Death Star, Have Inara get friendly with Tarkin, Have Wash take up pod racing (that one was mine ), and the runaway favourite - Get Mal and Han into the same room. SOON. She's working on that one.

What's wrong with the NJO? Other than not having any cool dark jedi to fight, it was a great series IMO. It actually developed the characters and moved the EU forward.
