I had heard of a series that was supposed to come on lifetime that was apparently a cheap knockoff of Angel. Anyone remember what it was called/ I'm looking forward to checking it out. Thanks.

Yes, it's called "Blood Ties", based on Tanya Huff's popular series of books.

Keep in mind these books were written way before Angel or buffy were produced, so to say cheap knockoff, the other way round applies.

I saw the pilot episode, and it didn't suck. ( pardon the pun ) That is to say, I found it very watchable. Unfortunatly, it comes on at 10pm Sun nights, the same time as Battlestar Galactica, so I missed the next couple of episodes.
People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I can't comment on the books because I've never read them. I don't care if they came first, but I still wouldn't consider BUFFY a cheap knock off of it. In terms of quality as a series, BUFFY wins hands down, I'm sorry. There's just no contest. I tried to watch this show, and though I didn't completely hate it, I can't seem to get invested in it at all. I like the lead actress okay, but the rest of the cast just seems dull as a post.

That's alright jwa, I can't stand Buffy because of SMG, and the girl who plays Tara, or the others, I don't care for any of the cast frankly. Now if they'd gotten the girl who played her in the movie..... maybe. Then again I like the movie a hell of a lot better. I'm funny that way. Not a cheap knockoff, but a knockoff.

I actually think Kristy Swanson is a horrible actress, and although I didn't hate the BUFFY movie as much as most other people, I still hate that Joss's vision for it was raped by director Fran Kuzui.
I'm not a fan of SMG, either, though it's mostly for personal reasons I won't get into than her acting ability. I actually think she is one of the best actresses in her age group out there...although you wouldn't be able to tell that from her movie choices alone.
Still wouldn't consider it (or ANGEL) a knockoff of this series of books. The only things they really have in common is that it's supernatural, the lead (female in this case) is a PI, and she is attracted to a vampire. Other than that, nothing. It just feels like a typical Lifetime series that happens to have supernatural things in it. Take that out and it's as ordinary as anything else. Even the snarkiness is lame (usually) in this show, but at least it's there so I won't complain too much.

I see all of Harry Potter the same way after reading "the books of magic" from Neil Gaimen. Find those first 4 graphic novels. Enjoy Timothy Hunter.

I'd like to retract my harsh statement about Kristy Swanson. I don't think she's really 'horrible' exactly, I just don't see her as being able to portray the emotional depth necessary for the Buffy character. While KS is actually fine in the roles she's played (the ones I've seen anyway, which is about 3 or 4 different movies), SMG is usually flawless in this area. Regardless of what I think of her personally, SMG IS Buffy.
As for the rest of the cast(s), I'm not saying every person who ever acted on each show is the most perfect actor or actress at all times, but each one is right for the part they were chosen for. Each one had something that made me care about the character they played. It goes without saying how much I love Joss (hence my name), but even with his brilliant writing, I strongly doubt I could love each character as much as I do without the right actor in the part.
I'm just not seeing that with BLOOD TIES. Like I said, I like the actress, and I'm kind of liking the guy that plays Henry, but I am just not feeling that undefinable thing that pulls me in the way BUFFY, ANGEL, and FIREFLY have.
This 'thing' has actually ruined tv for me. See, I have this problem with trying to find 'it' in other shows and have only been successful a few times. GENERAL HOSPITAL (even when it's bloody awful, a select few characters always keep me coming back), ALIAS (mainly, the relationship between Sydney and her father), LOST (pretty much everything about it), and VERONICA MARS (I tried it out because Joss loved it so but the characters and the writing kept me glued--it's BUFFY/NANCY DREW and if it's cancelled too soon I will be almost as depressed as when FIREFLY ended).
