Bunnymaster, I highly recommend D*C! Last year was my first year, and it was a blast! And something neat....you get to meet up with a large family you've never met! 
I also recommend marching in the parade...that's a lot of fun!
I made the coat from a pattern I cobbled together from lots and lots of research (photos and the like). It's upholstery-weight leather with buckles I also made. I did sell quite a number of these (not trying to sell now...just here to help), but drained my leather supplier.
It's not *quite* screen accurate, but it is close enough to me.
And rather than clutter the photo thread (sorry, all) when you get ready to put the costume together, feel free to PM me! I'd love to see more Mal outfits around!

Through science, I've been able to locate the exact point of evil.
As you can see here, There is a miniscule point of evil (or 'gleam') hiding among all the cuteness in this region here.
