Jayne, River and Simon had expected some sort of resistance when infiltrating the Medical Facility on Ariel. They just hadn't expected beagles with lasers attached to their frikkin heads. Or the ill-tempered mutant sea-bass.
OR
The sight of Mal, Book and Wash playing naked limbo would be burned into their minds forever.
OR
Jayne, Simon and River had come running when they heard the commotion, expecting that, as usal, Mal's plan hadn't gone quite right. Seeing Wash juggling baby geese as a method of distracting the Alliance troops was a little unexpected.
