As opposed to Arab-hating psychopaths, of which we have a couple too ?

I ain't defendin nothin, just pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of bashing PN while not bashing other intolerant folk.

But some intolerance is ok, cause it's politically correct right now ?

The irony here is that either position can be labelled Anti-Semetic, cause Arabs are Semites too.

What I don't understand is why so many people are saying it has something to do with NASA. I'm not saying that's impossible, but I am thinking that there have been plenty of murderers (okay, sorry, attempted murderers) who worked in all kinds of jobs for all kinds of corporations/agencies/etc., and we don't always blame the job/company/etc. for those people. Sometimes there's just something a little wrong with someone (forgive me the understatement) and we can't assign blame to anything other than that thing which is wrong, whether it's brain chemistry or whatever.

I'd be the first to say that NASA has made some colossal mistakes in its history, but I'm not ready to blame them for this one. People who do these type of stalker things are usually pretty good at hiding it, aren't they? How could anyone have known what she would do? I do agree that she faced job stress unlike anything I'll ever face in my cubicle, but so did many other people who didn't take this route. I just hope she'll get some help.

It's my belief that we haven't heard half the story yet. The CNN site was using pictures of her taken during her flight and she looked more like the publicity picture above than the mugshot. That flight was what, six months ago? In that time some bad stuff has happened for her to have become so gaunt. She has also seperated from her husband in that period.

So did she fall for the other astronaut and did that deep six her marriage? Or was her marriage in trouble and she fixate on the flyboy because he was kind to her?

Doesn't for one moment excuse her behavior but I've got to admit to being morbidly curious as to the cause.

As an aside, if you saw the HBO mini series "from the Earth to the Moon" there was an episode called "The original first wives club" about the wives of some of the Apollo era astronauts. They had a seriously stressfull life, doing publicity for the program, keeping the family together while hubby was putting in the hours nescessary to stay on the flight rota. Drink and mental problems were rife and after a married astronaut had an affair and was not cut from the program (showing that NASA would turn a blind eye to some infidelity) almost all of them ended up divorcing their husbands.

I didn't think people were saying (well, most people) that it really had to do with NASA itself. I personally thought it was a kind of ironic because there's a general assumption that astronauts are rigorously tested and screened physically, intellectually and psychologically before getting into the program.
Hence my space psychosis comment being more of a commentary than an actual statement of belief or fact that space travel, NASA or science overall is actually to blame for that woman's actions. How a person can be so far beyond the edge of reason to not stop and think about how something like this will ultimately effect your children is something I can't understand.

Full disclosure: I did smile at a blogger's headline, "When Astronauts Attack".
