Okay, I've let my 6-yr-old son watch "Shindig" but he's never shown any interest in true sci-fi before. Then yesterday afternoon he saw an ad for Star Trek (the original series) and begged us to stay up and watch it.
This is one of the proudest moments for me. I'm not technically a trekkie -- just a fan, mostly TNG. But the fact that futuristic space ships fascinate my young son just tickles me.
He watched the whole epi and really like the kooky, cheesy costumes.
So proud!

Heh Tanya,

Thats great for you. I try to interest my kids(6 & 8) and they have watched all 3 original Star Wars but they arent quite as into sci fi as I hope. Still.. its a work in progress :)

I have a 6 yeqr old son too . How wonderful that your son's enjoying sci -fi !
Mine loves Trek and has even seen Serentiy once.He fell madly in love with Zoe.
I think he's got very good taste !

My Tidbit is nearing 6 at the end of March and is aware that Mommy likes a show called Firefly...but that's where his interest ends.

He's much more a SG/SG Atlantis kindof guy.

I have been tentative to let him watch Firefly because...well, there are lots of reasons but I haven't felt he's quite ready to understand and appreciate it.

Congrats on getting your son to watch AND enjoy.

Him seeing the BDM was just out of my sheer boredom with the Power Rangers one day when he was home sick. He's only seen clips of the series.But both love the theme somg & request it as their goodnight song every night.
I most certainly don't mind.

My three-year-old likes to watch the pilot episode of Firefly over and over (mostly for the shot of Inara flying her shuttle and Wash escaping from the Reavers -- he's a big fan of all things flight-related). And he sings the theme song, too :)

About six months ago, I'm in a Sharper Image store, and I see a seemingly-normal 12-year-old staring at one of those staggeringly realistic Force FX Lightsaber replicas that I would've killed for when I was his age.

Innocently, he asks no one in particular, "What is it?"

I say, "It's a lightsaber." Blank stare. "From Star Wars..." Not registering.

Three of his friends come over, and none of them can figure out what it is, either.

I leave the store just... kinda numb.
Like I'd stepped into an alternate universe.
