Ok, so BSG has just started being shown in Australia on the SciFi Channel, and I had a couple of questions to ask you fine people.

I missed the first couple of episodes, and recently found out that there is also a movie that is the prequel to BSG. Is it necessary to have seen the movie before watching the show? Also, I'm kind of having a few minor troubles here and there with the show, and I'm thinking this is probably because I missed the first couple of episodes. Did they set the scene comprehensively in the first couple of eps, so that somehow getting my hands on them will solve my confusion?

I'm just trying to decide whether to fork out money for the boxed set and the movie at the moment, because it's driving me nuts that I missed parts of the series.

Otherwise, I'm loving it so far (the next episode is the one where Adama is accused of being a cylon and goes missing). Any advice is much appreciated.

Oh, and BTW, please no spoilers!

Zoe: What? And risk my ship?

They definitely set the scene in the movie/miniseries, which is so far all I've seen of it (working on the rest of it). I'm sure it would clear up any questions you might have, though.

I think you would have a much better appreciation of the characters and setting if you see the miniseries first. I thought it was a bit slow for about the frirst half hour or so, but as soon as the Cylons attack, it's excellently done.

Sex and violence on the big screen, where it belongs.

The movie or mini series should be included in the box set. Double check before you buy both.

In the US, and perhaps North America in general, the movies -are- included in the first season box set. I will refrain from guessing "why" (since I have no real clue) nor "second guessing" (since I don't want to get kicked over into a "troll thread") the decision, but I believe it was a good marketing choice where movies were included in Season 1 and an poor choice where not. In most of the world, the movies were not included in season 1 box set. If you are liking the series but confused, I predict you will like the movies and much confusion will be removed.
