I was overseas when Firefly originally aired, and during the battle for Serenity. I was fighting another war as a man of honor in a den of theives in a country called Kazakhstan. It took two years for them to force me out, after I embarassed them by proving that honest men can work and live there. I only mention this because I know how to fight on the right side, even if it maybe the loosing side, and that is what we have.
Everyone here wants to keep Firefly flying, but few know how to go about it. We have has some try in the past, (And I would like to know more about their successes and failures, as I said, I was overseas.) but we need to either Face the Black or Turn back. I suggest Facing the Black, and this is how I would suggest doing it:

1) We need to find out the budget to produce 14 additional eposides. We can either try to get the production costs for the original 14 eposides, or is someone could ask one of the cast to ask Josh, (or ask Josh himself) a ballpark amount. (Yes, I know we are talking millions here.)

2) We, as a Fan base, need to figure a ballpark on the amount that the fans will be willing to contribute. Now this will not be nearly enough, but it is a start.

3) With these two figures, we can try to figure out a reasonable way to raise the rest. I would hope that the next three things would be enough... but we would have to see.
a) Firefly club dues and advanced DVD Season 2 sales.
b) Permanent advertising. (Well, except for the DVD versions.) Presell 3-4 1 minute spots on the Firefly season 2 Eposides. Why do I say, permanent, because I would expect two deliveries of Firefly, Season 2:
i) Allow independent stations to show Firefly season 2, with the included 3-4 advertisements, and room for them to add additional advertisements to cover their expenses.
ii) One week after it airs on paying stations, it is LEGALLY released on the Net, with the included advertisements. (I think that the browncoats should be able to keep illegal downloads, (without the advertisements) from happening.

Now, I do not know if that will come up with enough cash, but I would think that it should. Mel Gibson got Passion of The Christ out through other channels. The Browncoats got Serenity out, despite Firefly being cancelled half way throught the first season. This CAN be done.

To the Naysayers...
1) Finding someone trustworthy to run the program: Not hard to find. All it takes is having 2 good CPA's, and proper oversite. (Josh or one of his people, I would assume.)

2) Too much money needed:
You have to ask first, and if there is a will, there is a way.

3) Big TV doesn't want it:
Tough!!! So the TV series is Darker than most. So what if it shows that the 'Verse is an Evil Empire made of the U.S. and China. I have held up against house arrest for four months to defend my Honor, and prove that I am right. I am currently getting ready to take on Big Oil and as a hobby take on Microsoft. Some people think they have a choice to do what is right, but do you really?

You hold. Hold until I get back!

That's fantastic. I'm not particularly knowledgeable in any of these areas, but I'd be willing to chip in my $100 (or whatever). And, it would be cool to surprise Joss and the cast with this.

Nice thoughts certainly, but a tad pre-mature. I suggest you let the natural flow of things work themselves out on matters concerning Firefly. No one cares more about it than Joss, and no one cares more about the Browncoats than Joss; so have some faith my friend.

Star Trek : 78 original epsiodes....took 11 years for a movie and 18 years for a new series.

Battlestar : 22 original episodes...took 25 years for a new series

Outer Limits : 48 original episodes...took 31 years for a new series.

Firely got a movie in less than 3 years...pretty amazing!

I know your heart's in the right place, erothoff, but ideas like this have been floated in the past, and shot down just as quickly. Can't recall the exact URL's, but there was Ace Underhill and his FireflySeason2.com scheme, and someone else attempted BrowncoatsRiseAgain.com.

First, Joss loves the 'verse, the characters he created and the actors, and he still has many stories to tell. But, he is a creative man working within the industry, and he would prefer to get back Into the Black in the conventional way, with studio backing. I think he would be very reluctant to accept funds from fans, since then he would have too many bosses trying to tell him where the story should go from here.

Second, who would you trust to handle all that money? There is just too much opportunity in a scheme like that for some creative bookkeeping.

Our best bet is to continue doing what we have been doing. Promote the series and movie on DVD, loan them out, give them as gifts, post on message boards and send emails to FOX and Universal. Eventually someone in the right place is going to notice all the interest and activity.

It Will Happen. We Will Rise Again.

If it were "only" a matter of $$, I believe the Browncoats could answer that little problem very well. Joss himself has said he's "not sure" who owns the rights to the tv show anymore. This is the year the contracts run out (sometime in Sept., I believe)..for the actors in regards to any further Serenity film sequels. There is a strong effort to get SciFi to air the episodes (in the CORRECT order) as a summer replacement and I know lots and lots of Firefly DVD's were under lots of potentially-newfound Browncoats trees this holiday (take a look at the Amazon tracker...amazing!).. so, we continue to do what we can - make new browncoats at every opportunity, I'm marching in the fan-produced "76th Independent Army Battalion" at Dragon*Con in Atlanta this year..and, believe me, I would never do something like that for any other show..we stay focused, on track, looking forward..and hoping (altho hope is a bitch)... I'm thinking we WILL rise again...and we keep "Holding, Holding until Mal gets back."

Damn straight, we HOLD!!! I have been waiting for Firefly (and yes, ranting, rageing, signing damn near anything with the remotist possibility of this show comeing back) and now that I am in college, I will begin the conversion =D I got my da and most of my family into it, some freinds of mine as well... we WILL HOLD and we WILL RISE AGAIN!!! Plus, gaining new recruits even after the show is technically "dead" can't be a bad thing, we may not get a chance to see the new Firefly folks, sad but true, but WE WILL NOT ALLOW THIS SHOW TO STAY DEAD!!!
