Model Firefly

Hi im new in these forums, but I have been into firefly and Serenity for a while. Anyway I was wondering if anyone could help me out? I need some sort of material to build a scale model of the Firefly ship Serenity. It is going to be 1.575m long, 1m wide and 45cm high (not including the landing gear). I know that if I build it out of a cheap plastic it has a high chance of falling in on itself due to the weight. So I need something that is stong but is light at the same time. Any suggestions?
I was also wondering if anyone had plans for the Firefly because I still need to figure out the size of some of the parts on the ship. I have looked every where and although what I found was usefull it just wasn't what I was after. I have asked on other fourms that I belong to but to no avail.
Does anyone think that it is possible I could get a copy of the plans from Joss Whedon if I asked nice enough?
Any help appreciated.

I think there was someone that made a model out of laminated paper (or maybe it wasn't laminated) and it was pretty gorramn shiny. the plans I can't help you with, but I think they're drifting around the net somewheres.

I'm afraid I can't help much either but I'm sure there's plenty of stuff to look at on the cortex, also be sure to post pictures when you're done.
