Fred's soul was DESTROYED??
WTF?!?!?
DESTROYED??? What a lame-ass way the drag tears out of an unsuspecting audience!!!
And how exactly do you do such a thing???
Don't you think something like that is a red flag for GOD??? Like he would allow that power in any of his creations?
And for non-believers, how does that fit in with the law of the conservation of energy???

It don't make no kind of sense, and it was STUPID!!!!

Okay so you're assuming that there is only one God, and they are all-powerful, whereas it's Buffyverse canon that there are in fact several Gods, and they aren't (eg. Glory, Osiris, Hecate, Illyria herself was supposedly God to a God!)

The Buffyverse isn't monotheistic, for all we know Jehovah is merely one of the Powers-That-Be. Maybe he just doesn't have the power to stop the Blue Meanie.

As for conservation of energy that doesn't really apply as the destruction of Fred's Soul could have merely been its complete conversion into energy (like say a matter/antimatter explosion) rather than its complete erasure from existance.

Well, thank you Mr. Wizard, that just answers ALL my questions concerning the scientific plausability of destroying a soul!!

It was just writers bending THEIR OWN RULES to make us all weepy, and you don't see it because you're Joss' BITCH!!!!

I'm too lazy to do the 'angry' thing, but...

I don't necessarily buy it that her soul was destroyed. The source for that info was the weirdo doctor, and Angel & co. never bothered investigating it further to see if he was correct (brilliant, guys ). Now, if that revelation had come from Knox, who was the big cheese in that whole deal (the Qwa'ha Xahn), I would've believed he knew what he was talking about, but the doc was just way too much of a tool to trust that he knew the real deal on the whole thing.

Also, when it comes to a show like Buffy or Angel, with all kinds of magickal and mystical elements, even if her soul had been destroyed, the writers can always think up some way of un-doing that and getting it back. From what I heard, in S6 it was planned that Fred would be brought back somehow, and Amy would then play dual roles, as both Fred and Illyria.

For whatever that's worth...

Since it was never established what a soul was made of who's to say?

In any case if your hypothetical "God" is all powerful then they must themselves have the power to destroy a soul which means that a soul must be capable of being destroyed

You want to get some flamey reaction? Watch and learn junior...

Joss Whedon was a wimp, I'd have had the last Season of Buffy and/or Angel with the Scoobs and/or the Fang Gang fighting to stop the HellGod Jehovah from initiating the story from Revelations.

For that matter when are we going to see Jehovah as a Minor Goa'uld System Lord in SG1? Sci-Fi scriptwriters are such wusses

Okay so that should stir up some response

The whole 'soul destroyed' point was worth it for Alexis to deliver that wrenching line 'Nothing is alright!'.

(In the spirit of flaming.)

I think you guys have totally missed the point. *Sigh* The only stupid thing about Angel season five is that it was the FINAL season! Come on! That is the only thing that never made sense, and was truly STUPID. Why God, Why?!

If anyone disagrees, they need their head checked. Nuff said.

Oh.. Just to add.. If anyone DARES to mention the Angel puppet as one stupid thing about season 5, I will come around to your house with a very large stick.

(I feel so much better now.. Seriously, excellent thread Chris.)
