Forgive me if I re-state what I'm sure all of you consider the obvious. I am 48 years old... a fan of science fiction all my life. I have come to know Firefly only in the past couple of weeks, because I downloaded the first episode (made, not aired) "Serenity" from Amazon's Unbox. Never... and let me emphasize this... NEVER have I been drawn into a show so quickly and so completely. The characters, the writing, the effects, the music... every frame is an absolute work of art. My regret is that I did not discover Firefly when it was first introduced on what must surely be a brain-dead network. How did they let this go? I am dumbfounded. Even Star Trek TNG got the chance to develop it's characters and stories, something it desperately needed. The first 2 seasons of that show were completely lame and the characters 2 dimensional. Yet Firefly, whos characters and story were nailed from the beginning, gets no such consideration. I like to consider myself fairly intelligent, yet I cannot begin to fathom their thinking. I have a love for this show. I bought the DVD set and the movie, Serenity, and am almost all the way through the show. Just this morning, before worked, watched "The Message". I keep waiting for an episode that disappoints... I'm still waiting.

P.S. Under possible penatly of being banned from this forum, I will admit that I cheated and watched the Serenity movie before completing the series. ASTOUNDING! Another bravo to Mr. Whedon.

I personally love stories like yours...and now you know why the Browncoats are a thriving community years later. We are all types, all races, all ages, and we are all Whedonites.
There are all sorts of people on this site - fans who watched it first run on tv to people who discovered Firefly because of the movie. No worries when you found it - just be glad you did!
Share your love of Firefly with someone else. It's the best way to recruit!
Dig into Firefly further. Watch the viral videos. Read fanfic, the Visual Companion, the books Finding Serenity. Look at some of the guerilla marketing efforts online and try them yourself. Read the unaired script, Dead or Alive, on this site.
We're glad you are here! Post well and post often.

Oh, don't feel bad about having watched the movie first...same thing happened to me! Serenity, and then I had to watch the series...over and over again. It is addictive, that's to be sure!

You're never too late when it come to finding Firefly, when you find it it was the perfect time for you.
We always love having new folks about. New ideas, new viewpoints. Unlike a lot of other fandoms, you'll find folks are always willing to discuss something that they have previously as with time, your opinions can change, or maybe you noticed something that you missed the previous 20 times you watched an episode.
Welcome again to the site. Either FollowMal or DonCoat should be around with a shiny virtual browncoat for you. It may take a day or two...lots of folks were out of town last weekend for the Flanvention that wasn't (a convention that was cancelled less than 24 hours before it was suppose to be happening.) Lots of folks are also indulging in the Firefly marathon on the SciFi channel today.

Welcome! I, too, saw Serenity before Firefly, and though I regret it slightly (the "is he going to die?!" factor was greatly diminished) I say hurrah to anything that brings in new fans.

It's really not a problem to watch the series/movie out of order...I watched them all way out of order, the first one I saw was actually Out of Gas! So, yeah, the important thing is that you found the show, and you now love it as much as the rest of us do!
