I am in just let me know where and were we leave from. They can't do this to us. They can but it is just not right.

After reading about crappy transfers on some early 20th Century Fox DVDs, I’m not all that surprised by this news. This major studio used its resources to slow down the DVD market’s progress to con us into paying them more for future “special editions”. Only since the turn of the century have we been able to count on a new DVD release actually being worth buying. That stage of development should have come much sooner, and we the consumers have been the victims of their scam.

Okay, I will admit that MGM used to be really bad too, but they aren’t as high-profile.

Warner Brothers, Universal, Paramount, and Columbia were the major North American studios that made efforts to put decent transfers on their DVDs when they first became available. If it weren’t for their efforts, we might still be stuck with crappy new releases.

On a more positive note, Barnes and Noble still have the release date set at December 9. So, here's hoping that Fox doesn't screw us over. Again.

Self-Destructing DVD's?

Idgits. If they don't last at least as long as a Blockbuster DVD (about 1 week on many releases) then they aren't worth getting.

I can imagine how pissed I'd be if I went to the store and bought a DVD, and it expired before I could watch it.

And since its utility is designed to fade with a color change, it only makes sense that some DVD players will stop reading it before others.

those self destrucing deals are only going to be available through video rental places.
the idea is that you pay 4 or 5 bucks for one, take it home and a couple days later it "expires" and you just toss it out.
it's part of a plan to combat pirates and make renting dvds easier.
