Dr. Who episode "The Girl in the Fireplace". Shown on US Sci-Fi channel Friday 10/20/2006.

Was this a homage to Firefly episode "Out of Gas" or do I need to "Get a little perspective"????

The Doctor goes to a spaceship floating in space.

In one scene looking at the spaceship from outside it could have looked like a dragonfly.

In the episode:

Doctor says "had some cowboys here"

Wish I could have zoomed closer to look at those parts on the table to see if they looked familiar.
Anybody got the UK DVD?

Mickey says "What's a horse doing on a spaceship?"

The Doctor says "What's pre-revolutionary France doing on a spaceship. Get a little perspective."

Repair Droid Seven says "We did not have the parts."

Mickey says "Always comes down to that. Doesn't it...the parts."

What ya think?

Haven't experienced the episode so can't
really confirm/deny. Sometimes the
aficionado will be so steeped in his own
interest that any little thing is liable
to speak to that interest, no matter
that there is no real relationship.

Obviously, we need to find the Dr. Who

The whole "cowboys" quote is based on a bit of english slang.

The doctor is referring to the repairs the robots have made when he makes the "cowboys" comment.

In the UK, a "cowboy" refers to a tradesman (builder, plumber, electrician etc) who just does a bodge job on something, collect his money and does a runner. No quality inspection, no sfetly checks or anything like that.

Heh, the French Connection.

Some people have complained about there being horses in Firefly. Like how could people 500 years in the future take horses on spaceships to a new solar system. That is just not possible. They couldn't do that. They would not want to do that. But they are accepting the perspective that people could get to another solar system...so why can't they accept the perspective that people would figure out a way to get horses there too. They are using their imaginations but not enough. Consider horses and cloning or frozen embryoes and artificial wombs. Populating planets to make new earths would include at least some well-loved animals. Dogs and Horses among them.

The spaceship has timewindows to pre-revolutionary France. Being a Timelord, there has to be some timetravel stuff in each episode.

What's spaceships, a new solar system with terra-formed planets, psychic powers, cloning, frozen embryoes and artificial wombs doing in a science fiction future. Get a little perspective or more imagination.

Do you have the Dr. Who DVD for that episode?

Here in the colonies, my boss uses the term cowboy to refer to computer people who try something to fix a problem without thinking about it first--cowboy--shoot first and ask questions later.

Nobody thought the ship looked like an insect?

Okay.

Disposal of cowboys accomplished (thought not in RL).

French cuffed into submission.

Horse export problem solved (even with improved
lift capacity, it's more efficient to transport
horses at smaller stages).

I maintain that "lack of spare parts" is one of a
group of universally used, life-based plot
elements.
("For want of a nail the shoe was lost" springs to mind)

Tell us where to look at the ship and I am quite
sure we'll tell you what we think it looks like.

Several scenes like in "Out of Gas" of just the ship floating in space.

One scene in particular where I think it looked like a insect. The wing-like section is pointing up and the tail section is pointing down. It is right before Mickey and the girl find the mirror door to France and the Doctor walks in followed by the horse.
