Last night as I was saying goodbye to my brother-in-law and his wife (who I consider my sister-in-law) who are moving cross country, I got to talking to her sister and said sister's boyfriend about music. Had they ever heard of Jeff Black? No, but we love Jeff Buckley. Have you heard his song Hallelujah? Yes, I said, I had heard that song. I knew that song well. That is a Firefly song. Then the Firefly jokes started.

I was reading Fray when I saw this in the corner of one page and I swear it looks like Kelly in the Blue sun commercial in Firefly.

The other day I saw a shirt, that was not only shiny, but it was actually shiny. And of course I called it that, my wife just laughed.

I just read a news article about a woman who was attacked by a shark of the coast of California. That got me wondering. When the Earth was used up, did they consider leaving sharks behind to die with Earth. Sharks are a pretty important part of the web-of-life, so they probably had to bring them. What about mosquitos? I think if they made Earth uninhabitable, they probably said, "Frig the mosquitos. Let the mosquitos fend for themselves." I know I would. Dirty little itchy bastards! And finally, which planet has all the tigers, lions, elephants, kangaroos, wombats, orangatangs, gorillas, crocodiles and other animals that don't jive with a space/frontier/western genre. Don't tell me they were all left behind! Just wondering.

Viva Firefly!

The 1980 movie Galaxina. Yes, I know it is horrid. Oh GOD I know it is horrid. But one of the advantages (?) of several years underwater is learning to appreciate bad films.

Anyway, part of the subplot has Galaxina, who is an android, walking through this town on the far fringe of the galaxy, looking for a guy who has the Blue Star (Woo AHHHH!) The town looked exactly like the one in Safe. (Well except for the Human Restaraunt and the cult of Harly David Son.)

They also had a scene at an intergalactic whore house. Not at all like the one in Heart of Gold.

What can I say, I am insane.

Did anyone ever see Titan, A.E? Not that I'd recommend it, but both Joss and Ben Edlund worked on it. In it, Earth is attacked by hostile aliens, and gets a ship out with survivors of the human race then, uh

Select to view spoiler:

Eventually, the thing the heroes of the film are looking for is this ship "The Titan" which contains frozen DNA of every species on Earth, with which they can recreate the world.

I've said before I feel Alien 4 has a lot of elements that went into Firefly, and the show is what Joss would have wanted that movie to be. Titan A.E. is a similarly craptastic movie he worked on where little of his brilliance got through. I wouldn't be surprised if some elements of Titan came through as well.

Sidebar- The working title was "Planet Ice" when Edlund was initially involved and I wondered if the Ice Planet frozen confection in "The Message" is a shout-out to Joss and Ben's time in the trenches of working on that tough, horrible movie. And one could say they "lost" that battle, too.

I almost died. I burst out laughing and got the you-better-get-your-ass-back-to-work look from my boss. Of course then they started talking about making asphalt and it ruined the effect.

Laughing good... Kayt (Gu nian zhong de gu nian, as everyone knows) is the undisputed master of Firefly quotes.

I guess I'll do my best to add a notch onto this thread. Reminded of Firefly today once again just because I am obsessed, and I pulled out the old gagreel. Laughed real hard and made myself very happy. Thought while I was watching it, that it would have to be a crucial part of any great shindig.

That would go without saying, I think. You'll have to tell us what put the notion in your head to get the gag reel out sometime.

Eating SmartOnes chicken & vegetables Carbbean, which was pretty good, actually - spicy even - for a "lite" microwave meal (I'm not sure the chicken is in fact chicken, but let's not go there) and as I finished I thought, "Dang! wish I'd had chopsticks for this. The chunks were sure big enough."

Funny how I never thought to use chopsticks to eat all manner of foods, not just Chinese. Then Firefly came along and I saw Mal eating a tomato using chopsticks in Sereneity and the whole landscape changed. Okay, granted, it could get a little problematic when eating steak.

Shopping at the grocery store this morning I found myself wondering which core planet was most likely to grow peaches.

Visiting Ro's horse farm over the weekend (Roansrus is a new browncoat recruit ), I wondered what kind of set up Mal's mother had, how many horses.

Naming my new kitten Simon - because he doesn't know what the hell he's gotten himself into by adopting me - pretty much is the epitome of Fireflyfanness. There is truly no hope for me, people.

Means we’ve found something worth fighting for.
Something worth being more than alive for.”
