Yippee!! Welcome back to the ranks of the (at least marginally) gainfully employed!
I've worked customer service. Deep breaths...many deep breaths. They are desperate people and they forget it's not *your* fault. That goes for us providers too. We see our coffee break/lunch slipping away as we sit on hold and we get kind of cranky sometimes, sorry.
Don't ever stray from the company script, it does not go over well.
