A farcaster house from the novel Hyperion. Imagine - every room on a different planet. A bathroom floating on a platform in the tropics connecting directly to a bedroom on a treetop hundreds of feet up, with a rec room in the center of big city. How cool is that?

THANK YOU to RCAT! Yes yes yes YES that's the book! I was at a bookstore yesterday. I had a vague notion the author's name started with N, but couldn't remember if it was the first or last. Then after I'd left the store, I got a vague notion the word "diamond" was in the title. Thanks so much! Another reason for wanting a holodeck from star trek. Can you actually imagine what it would be like to actually be in your favorite videogame, I would never get tired of playing Half-Life.
