Summer of Serenity Campaign Guerilla Marketing Idea #1

We all know by now that this coming Friday, July 14th there will be a marathon on SciFi Channel.
It starts with "Safe" and goes thru "Objects in Space". Even more exciting to me is the fact that SciFi is using Firefly as it's day long lead in to the premiere's of it's Stargate SG:1 and Stargate: Atlantis series. These are very popular scifi series. Does it mean they are interested in Firefly/Serenity? Who knows. But I do know I'm going to try to do all I can to make them aware of us out here.
Two things....
SciFi has a dedicated forum over there for Firefly. I am going to go join it and make my presense known. Can you imagine if everyone on all the other boards joined that board over there and started posting how many of us they'd see? And what about helping all new folks to find their way over there too... they'd see our numbers are growing! Universal and SciFi are affiliated. They have a board admin over there.
They are gonna see our presense. If we link them to our other boards, if we're active, if we post about our interest and campaigns... someone at SciFi will see this.. on a daily basis.
Before Serenity came out and before the last Firefly marathon they posted questions re: Nathan Fillion and Serenity/Firefly on their site. I'm gonna watch for this and vote if it's a vote and answer questions, if they ask questions.
I am going over there to register as FollowMal right now. I hope that others will join me. Watch for me, I'll say hi.

The big thing we have to do is get this marathon great ratings: IE we need a lot of TV sets tuned into it. We'll probably get strong participation from Browncoats, but I don't think that'll be enough. We need more people. Perhaps we can advertise the marathon without stepping on any toes.

You are right when you say we need more people... we need lots more people!
We have plans all week, ThePistonEngine to promote this marathon!
We are encouraging folks to post wherever you have memberships about it and include one of our shiny banners.
We'll have official banners in a couple of days and also a suggestion on what folks can write.
Also download and print off 11th Hour's guerilla marketing posters. They really work.. last time we had a marathon on SciFi I handed out the smaller ones, even at my work, and also hung them up everywhere. I had folks writing down where to purchase the DVD's and asking me about the forums.
Word of mouth is the best advertising. Talk about it to folks you know that have never seen Firefly/Serenity. They can't fall in love with it if they don't know about it. So, gently, so as not to freak folks out.. talk, talk, talk Firefly up.
When the marathon day arrives, Tivo it! Set your DVR's to copy it. Play it in the house, in the lobbies and breakrooms where you work. I have a lobby where my cusomters wait for their cars... I have the tv on Firefly all day. On Friday it's gonna be set to SciFi and we're all going to enjoy the marathon.
Then we're all gonna write SciFi this week and tell them how much we loved it and how much we'd appreciate more and how many folks get turned on to Firefly when they have marathons like this.
And how making another movie or a mini series or a tv movie will have me right there watching it.
I'm sure it will you too.
I'm gonna post on their forum about how I'm spreading the word about the marathon too. I want them to know I'm gonna do anything I can to say thanks, including boosting their ratings for this.
Universal and SciFi are affiliated. This will get us noticed!

Sorry I haven't responded to your email yet! Had brief spurt of Pirate-mania yesterday, but I'm back in the 'verse today.

And joining the Sci-Fi group is an excellent idea. On my way there now.
Do we have anyone here who are members of Stargate groups who can hint around to their members that Firefly is going to be on, and if they like Stargate, they might give Firefly a shot?
Little whispers can sound like a roar if there are enough of them. We don't want to shout in people's ears, but whisper enough that they can hear. ;)
