Hello, I know this may have been mentioned somewhere in the past, but I am trying to put together a costume for Mal.

I know resin models are availible, but I'd like to know what the base model for Mal's pistol was.

Any Ideas?

Unfortunately for us fans, there's no "base model" for Mal's pistol. The gun was built around an existing snub-nosed pistol by the name of Taurus 85, but even to say that is misleading. As I recall, all they used from that gun was the triggerguard and trigger, which are visible, as well as the cylinder and "action" I suppose (the stuff that makes the hammer pull back and click forward when you squeeze the trigger, etc.) - which are covered up by the completely original design of the gun you see on the outside.

In conclusion, I think that it would be a waste to build up from the "base" gun, considering all you're gonna see is the trigger area.

If you wanna learn a bit about the gun, and maybe scratch-build your own, take a look at this thread on the RPF. Fella built a replica pistol using the mold for the actual screen-used gun and slapping that stuff over a Taurus 85, just like the real thing.
