is this the beginning of the end?.... is the site going dark?
Those were my thoughts this morning when I was not able to access anything on the site - finally around noon the site was up, but this does not look good - can someone let us know what's happening or if there is anything we can do to help. I would hate to lose this place, but now i'm thinking it's inevitable..... good things never last - (sorry for the negativity.... and i hope these are not my last pathetic ramblings.... but if so, STAY SHINY - & KEEP FLYING people....)

The site's been around for, what...four years already? It can't be going down now! Anyone from way back then remember any problems like this happenning before?

I was getting a "down for maintenance" message a little bit ago. Then it was still a little glitchy when I got back on, but now it seems better.

I may have spoken too soon... Taking me three or more tries to post.

There has always been the odd sporadic moment when the site has gone down, although it is always fixed.

Every once and a while, a new catyliser needs to be installed.

The last big 'crash', was when the BDM came out. (A lot of people were trying to access the site for about a week. O.o)

It's true that the site is 4 years old. Although, occurences like this rarely happen. There have been the odd minor moment, but we always just sit it out. (It's like a virtual earthquake and we're all living on a fault line.)

I have faith in our Captn, Haken.

Ahhh, home, it's back, I hope! I have been having trouble accessing the site as well, and hope now as I see I can post that all is well on our shiny ship again.

There are two main causes of these.

1) There is a memory leak that got out of hand. This results in system resouces not being availible and thus everything grinds to a halt (or nearly). The solution is a reboot. Something those that run M$ systems have gotten used to over the years.

2) M$ is also not known for generating fast products that can handle load. So, when the site gets busy, things tend to fall apart. I've been witness to this many times over the years here.

Or a combination of the two. This is most likely.

That being said, since all these errors are due to SQL Server, I'd say that is where the current bottle neck is. Especially since this "program" isn't exactly known for its quality (I reference its security track record - see securityfocus for more details).

Big problems here too.

Takes more than a minute for the main page to load, and this is the first sub-page to open for me since Thursday (well, second --the page opened after about two minutes, I read through, hit "reply," and here I am. We'll see if this actually posts).

Trust Haken. He hasn't given up on us yet. He'll get us through this, just like every other crash.

Well, thank God I thought it was only helping to me I was going to have a rant about it till I saw this thread and calmed down a bit.

Started for me a few days ago, before that I could get on easy, this site has always taken a little longer to load but not like this. It's happened in the past many times but never this bad. I kept wondering if the site itself got spammed and was down for re-programming (since a few people here have been spammed in personal blogs and pictures)

I did get on 2 days ago which was suprising but when I tried to sign in I got the infuriating page cannot be found and I had to go back and I couldn't connect. Frustrating.

And the last few days I've tried to get on and all I see is the bar at the bottom of the screen slowly, ever - so - slowly fill up for minutes and minutes and I'd get impatient and just click somewhere else. Hey, maybe I was getting withdrawel symptoms, that would explain screaming at the computer screen.

It's still hicupping, posting is taking forever and I don't know if this will load but I'd managed to post one so here's hoping.

Hope to hear from Haken about this. Sounds like he may need a newer bigger server. Anyway good to be back and now I'll try to send.
