Weapons in Serenity

I was watching "Serenity" over the weekend and came up with a question (that hopefully has not been already addressed).

During the end battle sequence when what is left of the crew tries to barricade themselves behind the blast doors in the hallway leading to the elevator (or as someone in the movie says, the "lift"), Zoe asks Jayne how much ammunition they have left. He responds: "Three full mags and my swinging cod". At least, that is what I *think* he says (I did not check the subtitles). What in the world is a "swinging cod"? Is this an actual weapon or is he making a joke? Also, did I miss it or did Vera not make an appearance? Jayne has that massive machine gun that almost looks like a minigun but I never saw a clear shot of Vera anywhere.

Any clarification would be of great help.

I just hope in the Special Edition they give us an alternate take from River's POV.

I don't give so much of a rip about the battle; we already see enough *amazing* shots of that. I just want to see right after it, you know? When River runs over and hits the button to open the blast doors. Then runs back to the middle of the room and poses so that the rest of the crew can see her as the purple bellies blow the wall behind her. That scene turns all manner of funny when you think of what had to happen on her side of the door in order to get that shot.

LOL! Never thought of it that way... I always assumed the Alliance troops sort of opened every door in the complex that wasn't already blown off or blown up, trying to figure out where our BDH were.

Maybe there's a story between the series and the movie that had something to do with Jayne losing Vera =/. I sure would like to see that... I'd bet he'd cry :(.

I guess if you want to get imaginative, you could say that she managed to swing her last victim at the panel and used its body to open the doors that way. That would make for a remarkably less funny image, but I think it would be awesome to see a body fly, hit a panel, and pop a door open.

And then then purple pod people ruin it.

OOOO And I forgot about the swinging cod. When I heard that I rewound it because there was no way he would say that. Would he? It was Jayne. He did. mmmmm, would love to see that weapon.

You know, they tell ya to never hit a man with a closed fist, but it is, on occasion, hilarious.
