Whats the best deadmilk men album? I've been meaning to pick one up but I've been waiting for a recomendation. Surprised no one said Husker Du or the Stooges.

In my opinion the best Dead Milkmen album would have to be Big Lizard in my backyard. On the otherhand if your new to them I would highly recommend Death Rides a Pale Cow the ultimate collection. It spans their entire career, and picks the very best songs from each album.

I forgot to mention The Meat Puppets. They are definately one of my favorites. Mirage is one of the best cd's I own.

Right now I can't get Flogging Molly out of my cd player. I guess I'm gearing up for St. Patrick's Day a little early.

might i also suggest some Dropkick Murphys and The Pogues if you want to get in the St. Patty's mood.

as far as what i've been listening to lately, i've been listening to a lot of Against Me!'s "Searching For a Former Clarity" album and Gogol Bordello's "Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike". If you like Flogging Molly, I suggest checking out Gogol Brodello. They have a somewhat similar sound, but their sound is a mix of Punk, Gypsy, and Cabaret music.

However:
I have to take issue with anyone think elvis (presley) and the pogues are punk rock.

punk is NOT any old anti authoritarian mode. I agree that for their commercialism alone, Ramones are wiped off the face of punkdom forever. Anything accepted as cool, hip, and popular could be argued as NOT punk.

for all you punk fans, did you see the sex pistols documentary that came out a couple years ago? you must! The Filth and the Fury.

And just a few days ago I about snorted myself into a fit laughing at a new song by MC Lars (never heard of him) called "hot topic is not punk rock." sooooo hilarious! every time i see some teenage POS give me attitude at a record store, I wish I could just rip into them "listen you little suburban wannabe, i was diving in the real clubs when you were in diapers so stop judging people by their fucking clothes cause you can't live off of the 'rents forever!" but of course they're not worth my time so i dont. I think just saying this song's title to them would be a much more succinct dis.

could be this thread's theme song!

Gotta semi-disagree. "Punk" is more a state of mind and music within the confines of the times. As such, the Ramones and Iggy Pop qualify, even if their stuff is used to sell anything from cars and bed linens to cruises and Centrum Silver. Like Iggy said, "I don't give a #%(& what they do with it or what they sell with it; it doesn't change why I wrote it."

I have to laugh every time I hear "Lust for Life" on a commercial. Notice no one ever uses the vast majority of the lyrics. ;) No cruise line ever seems to want to talk about the "liquor and drugs/ and a sex machine/ he's gonna do a little striptease" part of the equation!

The Ramones were never really on my favorites list. To me (personal opinion, and I'm sure many will disagree), they just sounded like a semi-punked-up version of Sha-Na-Na. Doo-wop with black leather...

Also, I've got to admit that I'm not really up on "new" punk. To me, so much of it just sounds like rehashed OLD punk. Rancid, for instance; I like 'em okay, but most of what I've heard from them sounds like 1978-era Clash. Not that that's a bad thing - it's just not as original as what came before it.

Again, just my personal opinions. And I'm sure I'll be vehemently disagreed with on some of them.

I agree that the Ramones aren't punk, but I think that the genre is a state of mind, as well as an anti authoritarian, non-conformistist reaction to pop-culture.

Which is exactly why Sum 41, Green Day, and Pennywise are about as far from punk as Public Enemy is from being country or River is from harmless.

Oh yea, what have you heard of Rancid that reminded you of The Clash? Their good stuff always reminded be of Minor Threat, real hardcore, angry, non-stop-fast-paced. The bad stuff always sounded more like Blink 182 wanna-be punk, genre-exploiting power pop.
