what the article does not tell you is that our dear captain does not have a speaking role, as he will merely be playing a corpse.

he does make a great deal of screen time, however, and will undoubtedly stun us all with his brilliant portrayal of grief, with a small dose of silent contemplation, and a few well timed bits of wittily sarcastic emoting, all while lolling about in a coffin that the other main character feels compelled to bring with him throughout his life (it's a compulsion thing, i don't think they explain it very well in the movie, but it will be revealed rather well in the commentaries following general confusion and speculation among fans.)

let's just hope there aren't too many maggots.

You're upset about it being different than Jay Anson's book? I grew up in Amityville, NY. (yes, seriously) The creative license that *he* took with the "real" story frustrated me, and Warner Brothers got sued because of the original movie and the problems that it caused =p In the end, I had to just write it off as a horror book and try to just enjoy it as entertainment, or I would've ended up with too much stress =)

I'm not saying Anson's book is legit. It's just that it's a good story that had/has potential to be a good movie.

I enjoyed the 70s movie more than the new one, bad film and all. Literally, it was a bad copy. I don't know if all of them are like that since it's older. But I'm just bitter that everyone on set insisted that it was an adaptation from Anson's novel, and it clearly isn't. I mean, the house alone is ugly. Purists everywhere cried foul on that one.

Since you're from Amityville, what's your take on the whole "incident?" Just curious. I'm fascinated by this stuff, but I can't help but think "Hoax!" every time it's mentioned.

I'm totally not understanding how some of y'all can
say you won't go see it. How can you not support
this guy? Remember he's got this like, really big
part in Firefly? I think it would be a sign of good
faith to say the least if we could at least go see
his other movies. Unless y'all just want him to,
you know, ride off into the sunset before he even
turns 40.

I think it's total crap. I love the concept of paranormalism and spooky demon stuff as much as anyone, but I've been in the house. I've played in the "Red Room." The guy who killed his family there, whose name suddenly picked *now* to escape me, did just that. He changed his story in the last five or so years from "the devil made me to it" to "my sister killed everyone, and then I killed her when I came home" by the way. The DeFeo's, I don't have much faith in.

For the record, I do enjoy the movie and the book (I haven't seen the new one, btw), but for me, they're just interesting fiction set in a really familiar neighborhood =p As far as the divergence between the book and the movie, it didn't really seem any more out of place than most movie adaptations. =)

Also look for him in the Movie "Slither" March 31. But its only in limited relase..its a Science Fiction/Fantasy and Suspense/Horror.

In the "red room?!" ;) Isn't it just like a whole in the wall, or a closet? That's what I've heard. And I didn't know about DeFeo changing his story so many times. Interesting.

And about the movie adaptations. Yes, that's true. I shouldn't have expected anything different really. The only movies from books that I like are the Harry Potters...and they're missing a great deal from what's in the book. Not much added, though.

I'd have to agree, I usually go see movies that interest me, and I don't normally care who the actors are. I'm watching it to be entertained by the story, not to see it because I liked a different character that a particular actor did in the past.

And going on with the movies from books thing...the books are usually way better, with the exception of the LOTR movies.

Don't even get me started on the evils of the Harry Potter movies....I've found it better to pretend that they don't exist, especially the third one
