I loved this debut from David Tennant, it was fantastic.

It was funny, dramatic and above all, great.

The dilivery of the well written lines and obvious add-libbing were first class.

It picked up from where the regeneration left off, with an amazing Tardis Landing Sequence only to run out the door to Mickey and Jackie and say:
"Jackie! Mickey! its you, anyway im forgetting something, oh now what is it, oh yeah... Merry christmas!" then collapses.

I loved it.

Even though the Doc spent 3/4 of an hour in his dressing gown, he awoke to a killer christmas tree, made it explode with his funky screwdriver then collapsed on his way to investigate stuff. Then he collapses and wakes up to a smouldering cup of tea and bounces back to life only to be disapointed that he wasnt ginger.

I could go on for ages about this, so thats why i started the thread about it to discuss stuff.

All i can say about it from now is. Tennant is the Doctor, its a change from Chris Eccleston but, we can adapt to that.

The preview for 2006 looked amazing.

So, what did all you Doctor Who fans think of it, old and new?

It was good. A classic regeneration episode with all the cliches that means (spending most of the episode asleep, the wandering through the wardrobe at the end), with the addition of some really clever bits. Not sure about the 'It's ok, I'm still regenerating so I can regrow my hand' flange, though... :)

I did like the Project Torchwood reference. For those who don't know, Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who and was used to label the film when it was being transported. It is also the name of a new spin off series starring John Barrowman as Captain Jack... The nice little 'you shouldn't have killed them' moral issue at the end was interesting too.

You know, I do wonder what may happen were Russel T Davies and Joss Whedon to collaborate on a project... :)

I enjoyed it although I don't think it quite hit the high points that Who is capable of.

Also, when it came to the moral dilemma at the end, I was firmly on the side of Harriet Jones (Prime Minister)

If you're an evil all-conquering race of aliens with a demonstrated history of breaking your word, then you've got to expect to be blown out of the sky.

I think that bit was cheap rate political point scoring.

But the trailer at the end... Promising!

that was my view about the last ten minutes with, what i call, 'The Cosby Show' ending where it either ends up perfect or theres a huge right/wrong morals lecture type thing. wasnt too keen on that part, although i can relate to both sides of the argument in that the Doc is all for saving races despite what they have done. and the political protection stuff from the PMs point of view.

That would be an interesting combination. I have also wondered what it would be like if Neil Gaiman were to ever write a Doctor Who script.

As for "The Christmas Invasion", David Tennant just blew me away. He may have been asleep for more than half of the show, but when he did wake up his presence was felt. I really enjoyed Chris as The Doctor and wish he'd have stayed more than one season, but as the 1st Doctor once said, "It's good to see my future is in safe hands." (The Five Doctors)

Not sure about the political points scoring. I think it was an interesting moral point because there really is no right answer. It also added an extra little twist to Harriet Jones who had previously been seen as a bit of a comic relief - her sudden resolve was a shock and that worked.

I agree that she did the right thing - from her point of view. Moral arguments are always from a point of view.

Hmmmm... now that would be interesting on many levels... You see, despite the fact that I have seen many of Russel's projects in the past (Queer as Folk, Dark Season) and can definitely say that Who is firmly in his style, I do sometimes think - this is what Dr Who would be like if Joss Whedon wrote it. I suspect that they are very similar in many ways - style, outlook, political leanings etc. and this shows in the writing.

Every doctor is different. Some people regret that Chris went and I agree he should not have gone. The reason he gave was not wanting to be stereotyped in the role but, to be honest, I don't think you can avoid that with Who - even one series is enough to stick you in the minds of the populace. However,a new doctor means having to forget the old one and forgiving the new one that they are not them.

He's an excellent actor and managed to impress me and I am hard to impress. :)
