In my opinion, good and evil are equivalent perspectives of behavioral outcomes influenced by long-term commitments -- rarely measurable within single lifetimes. That's why my heros are seldom human and my protagonists span centuries -- so they can find out how it all turned out in the end that is the beginning. For example, I like saving children from abusive parents -- it's part of my day job. But that doesn't necessarily make me a good person. My odds of being good, if such is a goal, are increased if I make long-term commitments to the children so that they don't grow up to become rapists and abusers themselves. Of course, I can't -- there's way too many maltreated children in this world to actually save.

So, I wrote a novel instead and will donate a portion of the profits, if any, to prevent child abuse. Am I a good person? It all depends on outcome and not on temporal intention. And, my self-measured "grade" at death will depend on feedback instead of self-analysis or self-concept. "Rarity from the Hollow" ( www.fatcatpress.com) just got a good review by an experienced critic:

"...the subject matter is dark and strong, unflinching in its portrayal of human darkness, and not for the faint-hearted or easily offended. Robert Eggleton is not afraid of employing complex style and structure to fit the needs of his story. The mixture of sci-fi, gritty reality, humour, and the mode of thriller reminds me a great deal of Dean Koontz’s writing, and Robert Eggleton may indeed have the potential to follow in Dean Koontz’s footsteps.”

It doesn't make me a good person.
